Systems and methods for control optimization of building subsystems are disclosed. In some embodiments, a system comprises at least one processor; and memory storing instructions executable by the at least one processor, the instructions when executed cause the system to: obtain building load information, the building load information related to one or more power consuming subsystems of the building; determine a future building load based on the building load information; and adjust one or more setpoint tolerances for the one or more subsystems based on the determined future building load.

Systems and methods for control optimization of building subsytems

A system has: a compressor having a suction port and a discharge port; an ejector having a motive flow inlet, a suction flow inlet, and an outlet; a separator having an inlet, a vapor outlet, and a liquid outlet; a first heat exchanger; an expansion device; and a second heat exchanger. Conduits and valves are positioned to provide alternative operation in: a cooling mode and a heating mode. In the cooling mode, a needle of the ejector is closed. In the heating mode refrigerant passes sequentially from a first section of the second heat exchanger to a second section. In the cooling mode refrigerant passes in parallel through the first section and the second section.

Heat pump with ejector

A method for operating a heat pump () includes operating in a cooling mode wherein heat is absorbed by refrigerant in the indoor heat exchanger () and rejected by refrigerant in the outdoor heat exchanger (). The heat pump switches to operation in a heating mode wherein heat is rejected by refrigerant in the indoor heat exchanger, heat is absorbed by refrigerant in the outdoor heat exchanger, and there is an ejector () motive flow and ejector secondary flow. In the heating mode a refrigerant pressure (P) or temperature (T) is measured and, responsive to the measured refrigerant pressure or temperature, at least one of a fan speed is changed and a needle () of the ejector is actuated.

Ejector heat pump operation

A vapor compression system () has: first (A;A;A) and second (B;B;B) compressors; first () and second () heat exchangers; and one or more expansion devices (A,B). Means (A,B;A,B,A,B;A,B,A,B) are provided for switching the system between operation in first and second modes using the respective first and second compressors. In the first mode: the first compressor compresses refrigerant; the compressed refrigerant is cooled in the first heat exchanger; the cooled refrigerant is expanded in at least one of the one or more expansion devices; and the expanded refrigerant absorbs heat in the second heat exchanger. In the second mode: the second compressor compresses refrigerant; the compressed refrigerant is cooled in the second heat exchanger; the cooled refrigerant is expanded in at least one of the one or more expansion devices; and the expanded refrigerant absorbs heat in the first heat exchanger.

Dual compressor heat pump

A method for operating a heat pump () includes operating in a cooling mode wherein heat is absorbed by refrigerant in the indoor heat exchanger () and rejected by refrigerant in the outdoor heat exchanger (). The heat pump switches to operation in a heating mode wherein heat is rejected by refrigerant in the indoor heat exchanger, heat is absorbed by refrigerant in the outdoor heat exchanger, and there is an ejector () motive flow and ejector secondary flow. A system () comprises: a compressor () having a suction port () and a discharge port (); an ejector () having a motive flow inlet (), a suction flow inlet (), and an outlet (); a separator () having an inlet (), a vapor outlet (), and a liquid outlet (); a first heat exchanger (); at least one expansion device (); a second heat exchanger (); and a plurality of conduits and a plurality of valves (). The conduits and valves are positioned to provide alternative operation in: a cooling mode; a first heating mode wherein the ejector has a motive flow and a suction flow and where utilizing a first expansion device () of the at least one expansion device; and a second heating mode utilizing the first expansion device and wherein the ejector has a suction flow and essentially no motive flow.

A heat pump system includes a refrigerant circuit, at least one variable speed compressor operating with a maximum pressure ratio of at least 5.0 and a variable speed range of at least three times (3&#xd7;), a heat absorption heat exchanger, a heat rejection heat exchanger, an ejector disposed on the refrigerant circuit upstream of the compressor to extend a pressure ratio range and a volumetric flow range of the compressor in the cold climates, a separator disposed downstream of the ejector and upstream of the heat absorption heat exchanger, and at least one variable speed fan configured to move air through the heat rejection heat exchanger to provide a predefined an air discharge temperature greater than 90&#xb0; F. A two-phase refrigerant is provided to an inlet of the heat absorption heat exchanger with a quality of less than or equal to 0.05.

Wide speed range high-efficiency cold climate heat pump

A cooling system includes a main closed-loop refrigerant circuit having a compressor and a condenser. The cooling system also includes a subcooler closed-loop refrigerant circuit having a compressor and a condenser. A portion of the condenser of the subcooler circuit is in parallel with the condenser of the main circuit with respect to air flow. A single exhaust fan can be in fluid communication with both the condenser of the main circuit and the condenser of the subcooler circuit.

Cooling system

A generator () is connected to the drive shaft () of the turbine ().

Falling film evaporator for mixed refrigerants

An air temperature and humidity control device is provided including a first heat pump having a compressor, an expansion valve, a condenser, and an evaporator. The first heat pump has a refrigerant circulating there through. A humidity controller includes a first contactor fluidly coupled to the evaporator and condenser. The first contact includes at least one contact module having a porous sidewall that defines an internal space through which a hygroscopic material flows. A first air flow is in communication with the porous sidewall of the first contactor. The device also has a second heat pump including a first polishing coil. The first polishing coil is substantially aligned with and arranged generally downstream from the first contactor relative to the first air flow.

Integrated membrane dehumidification system

A system for controlling an absorption chiller includes feedback control loops determining adjustments to system cooling and heating capacities and a controller for simultaneously adjusting positions of an energy input valve, a hot water valve, and a chilled water valve. The controller adjusts valves based on desired adjustments to system cooling and heating capacities and performance maps characterizing relationships between cooling capacity and heating capacities and valve positions. A method for controlling an absorption chiller includes the step of obtaining a performance map characterizing heat energy input to cooling and heating loops as functions of valve positions. To obtain the map, the hot water valve is held in a substantially constant position while the chilled water valve is modulated. Similarly, the hot water valve is modulated while the chilled water valve is held in a substantially constant position.

System and method for controlling an absorption chiller configured to simultaneously produce cooling and heating

A composition of a zeotropic mixture has a first chemical constituent and at least one second, different chemical constituent. The zeoptropic mixture has a temperature glide of 5&#xb0; C.-25&#xb0; C. with regard to its saturated vapor temperature and its saturated liquid temperature. The first chemical constituent is selected from 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane, 1,1,2,2,3-pentafluoropropane, 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane, methyl perfluoropropyl ether, 1,1,1,2,3,3-hexafluoropropane and 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-nonafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)-3-pentanone.

Composition of zeotropic mixtures having predefined temperature glide

An example power generation system includes a vapor generator, a turbine, a separator and a pump. In the separator, the multiple components of the working fluid are separated from each other and sent to separate condensers. Each of the separate condensers is configured for condensing a single component of the working fluid. Once each of the components condense back into a liquid form they are recombined and exhausted to a pump that in turn drives the working fluid back to the vapor generator.
