Methods and apparatuses for mobility robustness with joint phase-time arrays (JTPAs). A method for operating a base station (BS), includes determining, based on a wide-beam (WB) alignment procedure, a subset of beams for transmission of physical downlink shared control channels (PDSCHs). The method further includes transmitting a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) indicating the subset of beams and transmitting the PDSCHs on the subset of beams, respectively, using a JPTA beamforming. The same data is included in each of the PDSCHs.

Mobility robustness using joint phase-time arrays

A method includes identifying child beams of a current composite beam. The method also includes determining an order at which the child beams of the current composite beam are measured based on a likelihood that each child beam of the current composite beam is an optimal beam, among the child beams, to be a serving narrow beam. The method also includes determining a threshold for use in deciding whether to measure one or more additional child beams or select an already measured child beam when selecting the optimal beam. The method also includes selecting the optimal beam, among the child beams, to be the serving narrow beam based on the determined order and the determined threshold.

Method and apparatus for composite beam operation and overhead reduction

A method for operating an electronic device comprises obtaining information about signal quality measurements associated with a channel; generating newly obtained signal quality measurements based on a beam-sweeping procedure, wherein each signal quality measurement is associated with a respective measurement time and a respective transmit beam; adjusting the newly obtained signal quality measurements based on the measurement times and positional information of the electronic device; and updating a first measurement database of signal quality measurements with the adjusted signal quality measurements.

A method includes identifying a narrow beam for a transmission, identifying a composite beam including the narrow beam based on an association between one or more composite beams and one or more narrow beams, identifying one or more beamforming weights for transmitting the composite beam, and transmitting the composite beam using the one or more beamforming weights. The one or more beamforming weights are determined based on machine learning. In some embodiments, the method includes generating a composite beam codebook including information indicating sets of one or more beamforming weights corresponding to composite beam indexes, respectively. The sets of one or more beamforming weights are determined using respective parameters of a machine learning algorithm that are separately updated for coverage regions of composite beams corresponding to the composite beam indexes, respectively.

A method includes identifying, based on one or more user equipment (UE) reports, information on a plurality of narrow beams; determining beam correlation information for the plurality of narrow beams based on the one or more UE reports; and determining pairs of narrow beams from among the plurality of narrow beams based on the correlation information.

The input data is processed by putting an initial beam through a non-decreasing concave utility function which uses a cyclic coordinate descent algorithm that generates a wide beam meeting one or more design specifications. A codebook is produced that includes the wide beam.
