A device for controlling respiration during sleep based on the user physiological characteristic. The device includes an odor disperser for dispersing an odor; at least one detector for detecting a physiological characteristic of a user; and a controller for controlling respiration of the user by instructing the odor dispenser to disperse an odor responsive to detections by the at least one detector.

Device and method for controlling respiration during sleep

Apparatus is provided that includes left-nostril, right-nostril, and oral pressure sensors and oral pressure probes. A memory is configured to store left-nostril, right-nostril, and oral pressures sensed by the respective sensors, over a total period of at least 12 hours. A processor is configured to convert the left-nostril, right-nostril, and oral pressures stored in the memory to left-nostril, right-nostril, and oral pressure airflows, respectively, and calculate a series of orally-weighted laterality-indices over a respective series of sub-periods of the total period. Each of the orally-weighted laterality-indices of each of the sub-periods is indicative of a laterality index over the sub-period weighted by a normalized oral airflow over the sub-period, such that the greater the normalized oral airflow, the smaller the orally-weighted laterality-index. Each of the orally-weighted laterality-indices of each of the sub-periods reflects relative airflow through the left and the right nostrils over the sub-period. Other embodiments are also described.

Characterization of the nasal cycle

A method of identifying and classifying social complex behaviors among a group of model organisms, comprising implanting at least one RFID transponder in each model organism in said group of model organisms; enclosing said group of model organisms in a monitored space divided into RFID monitored segments; RFID tracking a position of each model organism by reading said at least one RFID transponder in each model organism over a period of time; capturing a sequence of images of each model organism over said period of time; and calculating at least one spatiotemporal model of each model organism based on time synchronization of said RFID tracked position of said model organism with said sequence of images.
