Disclosed is a method and apparatus for improving printed image quality. The image quality improvement is achieved by differentially curing different image elements such as continuous tone elements, uniform tinted and solid elements, color elements, line art and text elements. A delay in the activation, duration and variation in the intensity of the curing radiation or a mix of some or all of them that follows the ink droplet on substrate deposition controls the ink droplet spread and accordingly the image quality.

A printing method and system, which includes at least one printing apparatus, is provided. The present invention is directed to various apparatuses and methods for prevention of anilox roller scoring and compensation for anilox scoring ink marks, focusing on the anilox roller. According to some embodiments of the present invention, the uneven ink distribution pattern may be treated by an addition of an ink distribution mechanism. According to other embodiments of the present invention, image data modification methods are used for compensation for the scoring marks.

A printing method and system which includes at least one printing apparatus is provided. Each printing apparatus includes a printing member for selectively receiving ink into an ink receptive portion, the ink receptive portion includes a plurality of ink receptive dots forming a pattern in a desired resolution and an ink repelling portion, the ink repelling portion includes the entire area of the printing member except the ink receptive dots. Each printing apparatus includes at least one printing unit, preferably but not necessarily an ink-jet printing unit, the printing unit for applying ink onto the printing member in accordance with a pattern representing an image to be printed, thereby forming an ink image on a portion of the ink receptive dots, and a transfer system for transferring the ink image onto a printing substrate.

A duplex color web press, wherein each section, which prints both faces of the web with any one ink type and color, is configured with a single printing cylinder and, in the case of a digitally recording press, with a single recording head. The single printing cylinder carries the inking versions of both the recto and verso images around its circumference and the web is routed through two printing stations, both associated with the single printing cylinder, so that one of its faces is imprinted in one station and the other face--in the other station. The resultant print on each face is alternating recto and verso images, such that a recto image on one face is in the back of a verso image on the other face, and vice versa.

A processless visible light insensitive, IR sensitive printing member, is provided together with a method for producing the printing member. The method includes the steps of providing a visible light sensitive printing member and the step of processing the visible light sensitive printing member so as to receive a visible light insensitive, IR radiation sensitive printing member therefrom. The processing step is carried out in a visible light free environment.

A sheet holding device includes a sheet-holder having a concavely-curved surface for receiving a sheet, a sheet feeder at a first end of the concavely-curved surface for feeding a sheet thereon, a releasable holder at the second end of the concavely-curved surface including a recess in the concavely-curved surface at the second end located to be covered by the leading edge of the sheet, and a vacuum-producing device selectively actuatable to produce a vacuum in the recess when covered by the leading edge of the sheet.
