A power delivery rate from a renewable power source to a load is managed by determining, by processing circuitry, a change in a power generation rate, determining, by the processing circuitry, whether the change in the power generation rate exceeds a limit, and then, adjusting, by control circuitry, a power transfer rate to or from a power storage device, such that the adjusting is sufficient to prevent the power delivery rate from exceeding the limit.

Managing renewable power generation

A battery power transfer system includes control circuitry coupled to a charge/discharge module. The charge/discharge module is configured to apply an electrical stimulus to a battery and to determine, based at least in part on a measured response of the battery to the applied electrical stimulus, a target power transfer frequency of the battery. The power is transferred to or from the battery with a power transfer profile comprising current pulses having a frequency component selected based on the determined target power transfer frequency.

Discharging a battery is accomplished by: applying an electrical stimulus to the battery; measuring a response to the electrical stimulus, the measured response providing an indication of discharge efficiency of the battery; determining a target frequency corresponding to a maximum discharge efficiency; and then discharging the battery with a discharge current profile comprising current pulses having a frequency component selected based on the determined target frequency.

Discharging batteries

A battery pack connection scheme is shown that provides an synchronized DC environment for every cell in the pack, such that every cell in the same or similar voltage level in the pack sees exactly the same voltage and current environment. In some embodiments, a pack is provided having a positive load connection terminal and multiple batteries connected in parallel to the terminal. The connections are made via respective conductive paths each including a high-power DC precision cable segment, each of the conductive paths having a resistance suitable to allow an average charge acceptance rate of the battery pack to be greater than a one-hour, or 'C1', charge rate. The precision cable segments preferably have matching impedances, or have matching DC resistances.

Power supply modules having a uniform DC environment

A battery pack connection scheme is shown that provides an optimum DC environment for every cell in the pack, such that every cell in the same or similar voltage level in the pack sees exactly the same voltage and current environment. In some examples, a portable pack is provided having a positive load connection terminal and multiple batteries connected in parallel to the terminal. Connections are made with segments preferably have matching impedances, or have matching DC resistances, creating a uniform DC environment. Portable pack designs are provided including chargers and inverters connected in the uniform DC environment.
