An agricultural baler including a main bale chamber, a plunger configured to compress crop material in the bale chamber, a plunger drive, and a plurality of needles. The plunger drive is drivingly coupled to the plunger. The plurality of needles are configured to deliver twine through the bale chamber. The agricultural baler further includes a pivoting latch system drivingly coupled to both the plunger drive and the needles. A knotter is activated by the needles moving to a predetermined position.

A square baler has an ejector system including a shuttle assembly mounted in a wall of the bale case for reciprocation parallel to the direction of movement of the bales in the bale case. A least one dog mounted on the shuttle assembly engages in the last bale in the bale case positioned nearest the discharge outlet and advances the bale incrementally in response to reciprocation of the shuttle assembly. A second shuttle assembly is mounted in a wall of the bale case for reciprocation independently of the first shuttle assembly. The second shuttle assembly has at least one dog to engage in the next-to-last bale in the bale case. By selecting which of the shuttle assemblies to activate, an operator may elect to eject only the last base in the bale case or the last two bales.

A square baler has a baling chamber and a bale chute arranged at the discharge end of the baling chamber. The bale chute comprises a rear portion that is pivotable about a horizontal axis to allow each bale to be lowered onto the ground without the bale toppling onto its end as it leaves the chute. The invention weighs each bale while the whole of its weight is supported by the rear portion of the bale chute.

An agricultural-implement hydraulic circuit includes a pump supplying pressurized fluid to a first service line and a second service line via a feed line and a device for varying the flow rate of the pump. A distributor valve is disposed between the first service line and the second service line, with the first service line and the second service line being connected and disconnected according to a position of the distributor valve. A hydraulic motor is coupled to the first service line through the valve and discharges fluid to a return line. A hydraulic actuator is coupled to the second service line. An indicator-valve assembly is coupled to the feed line, with the indicator-valve assembly including an indicator sensitive to pressure in the feed line such that the indicator indicates a predetermined pressure in the feed line to an operator.

A method of controlling the combination of a baler and a tractor includes the steps of advancing the baler combination through a swath or windrow of biological crop matter with the tractor PTO operating at a generally constant speed to power the baler and the baler operating to take up biological matter while monitoring the flow rate of the biological matter through the baler. A microprocessor compares the assessed flow rate with an optimal flow rate and varies the travel speed of the tractor to maximize the flow rate of crop material through the baler. Preferably, the speed of operation of the tractor is accomplished through changing transmission speeds so that the PTO shaft speed is maintained at a substantially uniform rotational speed. The apparatus provided for carrying out the method of controlling the combination of a tractor and a baler increases the work rate of baling operations.

Method and apparatus for controlling a tractor/baler combination

An agricultural baler comprises a frame, a pick-up assembly for picking up crop material from a field and a baling chamber for receiving crop material from the pick-up assembly, the baling chamber having at least one movable wall portion. A plunger is mounted for reciprocating movement in the baling chamber for compression of the crop material therein, the plunger being driven by a gearbox which is affixed to the frame. A control unit adjusts the position of the movable wall portion in response to the signal from a load sensor, which is connected by a lever to the plunger gearbox for monitoring the reaction forces of the crop material on the plunger during the compression stroke. The lever arrangement includes a longitudinal pull member connected to one arm of the lever and a ball bearing mounted over the load sensor and connected to the other arm of the lever for precluding the effects of transverse or upward vibrations of the gearbox on the sensor.

An agricultural implement, such as a baler comprises a main frame and a hitch for attachment of the implement to a towing vehicle. The frame is supported on a bogie comprising a pair of steerable wheels. A pair of hydraulic rams can block these wheels in a fore-and-aft position for reversing the baler or for preventing fluttering during road transport. Hydraulic circuitry, which is used for controlling functions of said implement, such as the retraction of a bale chuteor the operation of a bale eject apparatus can be used to actuate the rams. The rams are loaded by providing pressurized oil to the return line and using a non-return valve for making the oil flow to the guiding the said circuitry to the rams.

A forage harvester and a method of operating the same which comprises a crop processor unit located in a crop flow between a cutterhead and a blower rotor, the crop processor unit being for handling crop material including kernels, the crop processor comprising a pair of counter-rotating processor rolls arranged to crack kernels between the rolls when the rolls are in a first position, both processor rolls being movable away from each other to move each roll substantially out of the crop flow into a second position. A cover plate is preferably arranged to move and cover the lower roll when the rolls are in a second position and to isolate the lower roll from the crop flow. The processor rolls are preferably driven by independent drives. One of the drives can be a hydraulic motor supplied with pressure from a hydraulic pump which can also work as a motor. When used as a motor the cutterhead may be driven in the reverse direction for maintenance purposes.
