Vehicles may be composed of a relatively few number of 'modules' that are assembled together during a final assembly process. An example vehicle may include a body module, a first drive module coupled to a first end of the body module, and a second drive module coupled to a second end of the body module. One or both of the drive modules may include a pair of wheels, a battery, an electric drive motor, and/or a heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. One or both of the drive modules may also include a crash structure to absorb impacts. If a component of a drive module fails or is damaged, the drive module can be quickly and easily replaced with a new drive module, minimizing vehicle down time.

Travel data may be gathered and published on a global map for use by various entities. The travel data may be captured by one or more vehicle computing devices, such as those associated with the operation and/or control of a vehicle. The vehicle computing devices may receive input from one or more sensors, and may identify and/or classify an event and/or areas of interest based on the input. The vehicle computing devices may then send travel data to the global map server for publication. Additionally or alternatively, the travel data may be captured by one or more user devices. The user devices may be configured to receive travel data, such as via a user interface, and to send the travel data to the global map server for publication. The global map server may consolidate and publish the travel data on a global map.

A vehicle adaptation system for impact mitigation may include an adjustable element. Additionally, in some examples, the vehicle adaptation system may include a fixed element comprising a substantially pliable material. The vehicle adaptation system may be configured to modify a rigidity of a vehicle body by modifying a stiffness and/or a position of the adjustable element coupled thereto. The vehicle adaptation system may modify stiffness and/or position of the adjustable element based on one or more parameters associated with an operation of the vehicle, in order to enhance the safety of vehicle occupants and/or pedestrians proximate to the vehicle.
