The present disclosure relates to a process of manufacturing curable precursor of a structural adhesive composition. According to another aspect, the present disclosure is directed to method of bonding two parts.

Process of manufacturing a curable precursor of a structural adhesive composition

The present disclosure relates generally to the field of adhesives, more specifically to the field of structural adhesive tapes, in particular for use in bonding metal parts. The present disclosure also relates to a method of bonding two parts and to a composite article. The present disclosure is further directed to the use of a structural adhesive tape for industrial applications, such as construction and automotive applications, in particular for body-in-white bonding applications in the automotive industry.

Elastic one-part structural adhesive tape

The present disclosure provides a polymeric material including a polymerized reaction product of a polymerizable composition including components, and a thermally activatable amine curative, and has a solids content of 90% or greater. The components include a uretdione-containing material including a reaction product of a diisocyanate reacted with itself; a first hydroxyl-containing compound; and an optional second hydroxyl-containing compound having a single OH group. The first hydroxyl-containing compound has more than one OH group and the optional second hydroxyl-containing compound is a primary alcohol or a secondary alcohol. The present disclosure also provides a two-part composition, in which a polymeric material is included in the first part and the second part includes at least one liquid amine. Further, a method of adhering two substrates is provided, including obtaining a two-part composition; combining at least a portion of the first part with at least a portion of the second part to form a mixture; disposing at least a portion of the mixture on a first substrate; and contacting a second substrate with the mixture disposed on the first substrate. The disclosure also provides a polymeric material and a method of curing a two-part composition. Advantageously, two-part compositions according to the present disclosure can be used as coatings and adhesive systems having a two-step cure with handling and performance similar to existing two-part urethane systems, but with less sensitivity to water.

Polymeric material including a uretdione-containing material and a thermally activatable amine, two-part compositions, and methods

The present disclosure relates to a curable precursor of a structural adhesive composition, comprising: a) a cationically self-polymerizable monomer; b) a polymerization initiator of the cationically self-polymerizable monomer which is initiated at a temperature T1; c) a curable monomer which is different from the cationically self-polymerizable monomer; and d) a curing initiator of the curable monomer which is initiated at a temperature T2 and which is different from the polymerization initiator of the cationically self-polymerizable monomer. According to another aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a partially cured precursor of a structural adhesive composition. According to still another aspect, the present disclosure relates to a method of bonding to parts. In yet another aspect, the disclosure relates to the use of a curable precursor or a partially cured precursor as described above, for industrial applications, in particular for body-in-white bonding applications for the automotive industry.

Curable precursor of a structural adhesive composition

The present disclosure provides a curable casting resin precursor, comprising (a) a first part (A) comprising: (a1) at least one epoxy resin; (b) a second part (B) comprising: (b1) at least one first amine-based epoxy curing agent; (b2) optionally, at least one second amine-based epoxy curing agent; (b3) at least one mineral filler; (b4) at least one phenolic lipid; wherein part (A) and/or part (B) comprise at least one triphenylmethane dye. The curable casting resin precursor is suited for encapsulating metal parts such as cable joints and the like.

The present disclosure provides a method for bonding parts, comprising the following steps (a) Providing a two-component adhesive composition precursor, comprising a first part (A) comprising at least one epoxy curing agent and preferably at least one first dye; a second part (B) comprising at least one second dye different from the at least one first dye and at least one epoxy resin; (b) Mixing part (A) and part (B) of the two-component adhesive composition precursor so as to obtain an adhesive composition; (c) Applying the adhesive composition onto a first part; (d) Applying a second part onto the adhesive composition applied to the first part; and then performing a first curing step at a first temperature, wherein the adhesive composition undergoes a first colour change; or (e) Performing a first curing step at a first temperature, wherein the adhesive composition undergoes a first colour change, and then applying a second part onto the adhesive composition applied to the first part; (f) Perform a second curing step at a second temperature higher than the first temperature, thereby fully curing the adhesive composition so as to obtain a structural adhesive bond between the first and second parts, wherein the adhesive composition undergoes a second colour change.

The present disclosure relates to a pressure sensitive adhesive assembly suitable for bonding to a substrate provided with an uneven surface, wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) assembly comprises a polymeric foam layer comprising a polymeric base material, and having a complex viscosity comprised between 2,000 Pa&#xb7;s to 80,000 Pa&#xb7;s, when measured at 120&#xb0; C. according to the test method described in the experimental section. The present disclosure is also directed to a method of applying a pressure sensitive adhesive assembly to a substrate provided with an uneven surface, and uses thereof.

Pressure sensitive adhesive assembly suitable for bonding to uneven substrates

The present disclosure relates to a color-changing adhesive composition, for example, a color-changing adhesive composition suitable in the preparation of composite materials. The present disclosure also relates to methods of preparing composite materials using color-changing adhesive compositions and to composite-materials comprising such color-changing compositions.

Described herein is an epoxy composition comprising: a first component comprising an amine-based curing agent and a first dye, having a first color; and a second component comprising a curable epoxy resin and a second dye, having a second color. Also described herein is a shelf-life-indicating composition comprising: an amine-based curing agent; and a dye selected from (i) a cationic triarylmethane dye, wherein the cationic triarylmethane dye reversibly reacts with a primary amine; (ii) a halochromic dye having a color transition range between 7-12 when measured in an aqueous solution; or (iii) combinations thereof.
