Apparatus and method for electrolytic coating of a mould, the internal surfaces of which demarcate a mould cavity, with a coating material for the purpose of achieving or re-achieving intended mould cavity dimensions. The mould, as the cathode, and an anode positioned in the mould cavity and an electrolyte containing the coating material are used. The electrolyte serving as the carrier of the coating material flows through the mould cavity in a controlled manner. During the electrolytic coating, only the internal surfaces of the mould cavity come into contact with the electrolyte and the external surfaces of the s mould therefore do not have to be covered. The mechanical properties can be kept largely uniform over the entire region. The coating can be achieved more rapidly than with the conventional processes.

Process for electrolytic coating of a strand casting mould

The spray nozzle comprises a mixing chamber into which a liquid, forming a first and a second liquid stream, can flow through two inlet openings and which comprises an outlet opening, disposed downstream, for a spray jet. A mixing chamber wall acts as a guide surface for the liquid streams and is shaped at the outlet opening such that the liquid streams meet at an angle at the outlet opening and then form the spray jet. Given an angle of impact of approximately 90&deg;, this spraying process delivers droplets with a high level of kinetic energy and a broad uniform fan-out of the droplet paths. Large areas can therefore be uniformly sprayed with the spray nozzle from a considerable distance.

Slot nozzle for spraying a continuous casting product with a cooling liquid

A continuous casting installation comprises an ingot mould and an oscillating holding device used for causing the ingot mould to swing when in a casting position. The installation consists, in a separable manner, of an interchangeable part and a stationary part. To replace the intechangeable part, it is separated from the stationary one and moved using a conveying means, at least along a partial path, from its position of operation into an area beneath the casting position. This enables, especially in the multiline casting installations, the interchangeable part to be transported during the casting process and, for example, along paths comprising straight or arciform segments, to any purposefully selected position and to be replaced by a new interchangeable part to be replaced in multiline installations with no interference with the casting process in any adjacent ingot arrangement.

Device and method for exchanging a replaceable part of a mould arrangement in a continuous casting installation

In an arrangement for supplying steel from a base outlet of an intermediate vessel (2) in a continuous casting installation, the intermediate vessel (2) is provided with an outlet block (3). Beneath the outlet block (3) there is arranged a first change-over part (6) which is movable transversely to the discharge direction (4) and can be pushed out of the casting position by a moving arrangement (30) and a second change-over part (38). An arrangement of this type is to be improved in such a way that the casting nozzle body has a longer service life and is cheaper to produce. Furthermore, security on the casting platform is to be improved during interruptions in casting, the extraction speeds during continuous casting are to be altered and the positional accuracy of the outlet block is to be increased. For this purpose, the change-over part (6) is made up of a holding frame (12) and a casting nozzle body (11). The holding frame (12) is guided and positioned on guide strips (14) in guide rails (7, 7'). In the casting position, the holding frame (12) is connected to a gas circulation system (17), gas inlet apertures (21) on the guide strips (14) being brought into conformity with gas supply apertures (20) on the guide rails (7).

Arrangement for supplying steel into a continuous casting mould

Molten steel is continuously teemed into a casting passage to establish a bath of molten steel in the passage. The molten steel is partially solidified in the casting passage to form a strand having a plurality of bulges which are uniformly distributed circumferentially of the strand. The strand is continuously withdrawn from the casting passage and the bulges are deformed during strand withdrawal so as to reduce bulge size. The amount of deformation is regulated by varying the bath level as a function of one or more casting parameters.

Process for the continuous casting of metal, in particular of steel into

The mold includes a mold tube having pairs of parallel opposed outer surface portions which extend axially of the mold tube. The mold tube defines an axial casting passage having an inlet end for molten metal and an outlet end for a continuously cast strand of the metal. The mold tube is provided with internal concavities which are uniformly distributed peripherally of the casting passage. The internal concavities, which extend in a direction from the inlet end towards the outlet end, become smaller in this direction and are designed so that the strand is shaped as it travels along the casting passage. To form the mold tube, external concavities are impressed or cut in a tubular blank and a mandrel with external protuberances is then pressed into the blank. If necessary, the tubular blank can thereafter be drawn or otherwise processed to produce the desired outer contour of the mold tube.

Continuous casting mold

A mold for the continuous casting of steel defines a casting passage having an inlet end for molten steel, an outlet end for a continuously cast steel strand, an upstream portion extending from the inlet end approximately halfway towards the outlet end, and a downstream portion extending from the upstream portion to the outlet end. The upstream portion is formed with a plurality of radially outwardly directed protuberances which are arranged side-by-side circumferentially of the casting passage. The size of the protuberances decreases from the inlet end towards the outlet end in such a manner that the strand is shaped during travel through the upstream portion of the casting passage.

Continuous casting mold for steel

A curved-mold continuous casting apparatus has a reciprocable mold with a curved casting passage and an arm which guides the mold for reciprocation. A secondary cooling unit is located downstream of the mold and is followed by a withdrawal-and-straightening unit. The apparatus further has a rigid, curved dummy bar, a piston-and-cylinder unit for moving the dummy bar between a storage position and a casting position, and a lever which is articulated to the dummy bar and guides the same. A support consisting of a bedplate with an upright stand holds the mold, guide arm, secondary cooling unit, withdrawal-and-straightening unit, dummy bar, piston-and-cylinder unit and lever in assembled condition and in alignment for casting. The support and the components carried thereby form a preassembled, transportable module which can be brought to a casting location or removed from such location. The module may have conduits for fluids such as cooling water, mold lubricant and protective gas, and these conduits are provided with coupling elements which can mate with complementary coupling elements on fluid supply lines when the module is installed at a casting location.

Modular continuous casting apparatus

A pendulum shear for a continuous casting installation wherein the shear is provided with a mechanical drive for a pulse-like cutting operation, a knife or cutter rigidly connected with the pendulum and movable by a driven crank towards a second knife. Further, there is provided mechanism for accelerating the pendulum out of its rest position at approximately the maximum knife opening in the direction of travel of the strand, this mechanism, prior to the cutting operation, accelerating the pendulum at its cutting region to a speed approximately corresponding to the speed of travel of the strand. The mechanism for the acceleration of the pendulum consists of a guide arranged at the stand or housing and guides the pendulum along its path between the rest position and the start of the cutting operation, and the cooperation of this guide with the pendulum moved by the crank controls such acceleration.
