A powder bed fusion apparatus includes a build platform movable in a build sleeve, the build platform for supporting a bed of metal powder, a powder layer formation device for forming layers of metal powder to form the bed, a scanner for directing an energy beam to selected regions of each layer to consolidate the metal powder and a radio-wave generator arranged to surround the metal powder and generate radio waves to heat the metal powder that forms the bed.

Metal powder bed additive manufacturing apparatus and methods

Microwave resonance cavities and associated methods and apparatus are described. In one example, a cavity () comprises a first and a second input port () for inputting microwave radiation at a first and a second frequency respectively. The microwave radiation at the first frequency may be to excite a sample in the cavity whereas the microwave radiation at the second frequency may be to interrogate a sample in the cavity for analysis. The cavity has dimensions such that it resonates at both the first and the second frequency.

A blood glucose monitor for non-invasive, in-vivo characterization of a blood glucose level in a living body, the monitor comprising: a microwave resonator having a resonant response to input microwaves and designed such that said response will experience a perturbation by a living body in proximity or contact with the resonator; and detection means for detecting changes in said resonant response from which said level can be characterized.
