A mobile wireless communications device may include a housing, a wireless transceiver carried by the housing and having a primary output, and a secondary output, and a multiple-band antenna carried by the housing and coupled to the wireless transceiver. The multiple-band antenna may include a dielectric substrate and a pattern of electrically conductive traces thereon defining a primary radiator and a secondary radiator spaced apart from the primary radiator. The primary radiator may include a first elongate member having a primary feed coupled to the primary output, and a first reference member spaced from the first elongate member and at least partially laterally surrounding the first elongate member and coupled to a reference voltage. The secondary radiator may include a second elongate member having a secondary feed coupled to the secondary output.

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, a circuit board carried by the portable housing and having a ground plane thereon, wireless communications circuitry carried by the circuit board, and an antenna assembly carried by the housing. More particularly, the antenna assembly may include a flexible substrate, an electrically conductive antenna element on the flexible substrate and connected to the wireless communications circuitry and the ground plane, and a floating, electrically conductive director element on the flexible substrate for directing a beam pattern of the antenna element.

More particularly, the at least one director element may include an electrically conductive main branch carried by the portable housing, and an electrically conductive connector portion extending between the main branch and the PCB.

A diversity antenna and main antenna are carried by the portable handheld housing and coupled to the RF circuitry and operative together. The RF circuitry tunes the diversity antenna into a diversity communications frequency band to achieve a diversity mode of operation with the main antenna and tunes the diversity antenna into a non-diversity communications frequency band when cross-coupling has occurred from the diversity antenna to the main antenna when operating in the diversity communications frequency band. A switch is carried by the portable handheld housing and connected to the RF circuitry and coupled between the diversity and main antennae and disconnects the diversity antenna when operating in the non-diversity band to prevent cross-coupling from the diversity antenna to the main antenna.

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, at least one wireless transceiver carried by the portable housing, and a satellite positioning signal receiver carried by the portable housing. Moreover, a satellite positioning antenna may be carried by the portable housing. The satellite positioning antenna may include an active element connected to the satellite positioning signal receiver, and a passive element connected to a voltage reference and positioned in spaced apart relation from the active element and operatively coupled thereto for directing a beam pattern thereof.

A frequency selective grounding circuit is positioned at a selected grounding location at the chassis ground plane and metallic front housing and forms a harmonic trap that responds to a specific range of frequencies.

A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, a circuit board carried by the portable housing and comprising a ground plane, and wireless communications circuitry carried by the circuit board. The device may also include an antenna assembly carried by the housing. The antenna assembly may include a flexible substrate, an electrically conductive antenna element on the flexible substrate and connected to the wireless communications circuitry and the ground plane, and at least one pair of floating, electrically conductive director elements on opposite sides of the flexible substrate for directing a beam pattern of the antenna element.

A mobile wireless communications device may include at least two antennas having a different structure. The device may also include wireless transceivers, a load(s), signal processing circuitry, and a controller. The controller may be for selectively switching the signal processing circuitry to a desired one of the wireless transceivers, selectively switching a desired one of the antennas to the desired one of the wireless transceivers, and selectively switching a different one of the antennas to at least one of the loads.

A mobile wireless communications device may include a circuit board, a dielectric extension extending outwardly from the circuit board, and wireless transceiver circuitry on the circuit board. The mobile wireless communications device may also include satellite positioning signal receiver circuitry on the circuit board, and an antenna on the dielectric extension and coupled to the satellite positioning signal receiver circuitry. A passive antenna beam pattern director is associated with the antenna and includes at least one electrically conductive director element in spaced apart relation from the antenna.
