A data capture device includes: a display, a primary image sensor having a primary field of view centered on a primary optical axis; an auxiliary image sensor having an auxiliary field of view centered on an auxiliary optical axis, wherein the auxiliary field of view is larger than the primary field of view; a memory storing offset data defining an offset between the primary field of view and the auxiliary field of view; a data capture controller connected to the primary image sensor, the auxiliary image sensor and the memory; wherein the data capture controller is configured to: responsive to activation of an aiming mode, control the auxiliary image sensor to capture a video stream; select, according to the offset data, a portion of the video stream corresponding to the primary field of view; and present the selected portion of the video stream on the display.

The system includes a server in communication with the mobile apparatus, having: a mobile apparatus controller to generate data capture instructions for the mobile apparatus; a repository to store captured data from the mobile apparatus; a primary object generator to generate primary data objects from the captured data, each including a location in a common frame of reference; a secondary object generator to generate and store secondary data objects based on the primary data objects; a detector to identify mismatches between reference data and the secondary data objects; and an alert generator to select a subset of the mismatches, and generate and transmit a status alert corresponding to the subset. The system also includes a client device to receive and display the status alert.

A method for power management of a mobile device includes detecting whether a removable power source has been removed from the mobile device. In response to detecting that the power source has been removed, entering a hot swap mode for a first time period by deactivating a first component of the mobile device and maintaining, via a backup power source in the mobile device, a powered state of a second component of the mobile device and an application state of the mobile device. The method further includes, after the first time period, entering a suspend mode for a second time period by deactivating the second component and continuing to maintain the application state of the mobile device for the second time period.

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for adjusting mobile-device operating parameters based on housing-support type. In an embodiment, a mobile device includes a housing; a data-acquisition device disposed in the housing; a sensor module configured to detect at least one housing-support element in a housing support, and to communicate a mode-identification signal indicative of the detection; and a processor coupled to the sensor module, configured to receive the mode-identification signal, to determine (a) whether the housing is positioned in a housing support and (b) a housing-support type, and to adjust one or more operating parameters of the mobile device based at least in part on the determined housing-support type.

A field replaceable desiccant cartridge and device, method and system there for is provided. The cartridge comprises: a housing comprising an insertion end configured to removably mate with an aperture of a device, the insertion end configured to generally prevent moisture from entering the device when mated; a desiccant located in the housing; a circuit located within the housing, the circuit in contact with the desiccant, the circuit configured to change resistance as the desiccant changes in moisture content; one or more electrodes located at an exterior of the insertion end, the one or more electrodes in contact with the circuit; and, one or more holes through the insertion end, configured to expose the desiccant to an exterior of the housing so that the desiccant can absorb moisture there from. Devices configured with the cartridge can report moisture levels to a server, which can track problems associated with moisture in the devices.

A method is provided for presenting battery degradation of a rechargeable battery to a user of an electronic device. The method comprising the following steps. An initial capacity and a remaining capacity of the rechargeable battery are obtained. The battery degradation is determined as a proportion of a difference between the initial capacity and the remaining capacity to the initial capacity. The battery degradation is visually displayed on a display of the electronic device as a battery gauge. A system to implement the method is also provided.

The system includes a trigger system including a mechanical actuator manually positionable by a user and a sensor for sensing the position of the actuator. A method and system for power control for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag reading is provided. The system includes a power amplifier for providing an RF transmit signal for the RFID tag reading. The RF transmit signal is provided to an antenna for radiating the transmit signal. The power of the radiated transmit signal defining a read range for the RFID tag reading. The system includes an attenuator provided between the power amplifier and the antenna for controlling the power of the radiated transmit signal to adjust the read range. A handheld RFID reader may include the system. The method includes calibrating the output power of a reader having a power amplifier and an attenuator provided between the power amplifier and an antenna. The step of calibrating includes at least one of controlling power of the power amplifier in its linear region, and controlling attenuation level of the attenuator.
