A polyurethane foam-forming reaction mixture composition including: (I) an organic isocyanate; and (II) an admixture of: (a) at least one autocatalytic polyol; (b) at least one ethylene oxide (EO)-capped polyol; (c) at least one reactive blowing catalyst; (d) at least one surfactant; and (e) water; and a polyurethane foam prepared from the above polyurethane foam-forming reaction mixture composition.

Polyurethane foam system

A method of reducing the number or size of voids in a polyurethane comprises reacting the formulation components in a container having an inner surface, or having a liner that has an inner surface, that has been modified to reduce the shear forces that normally accompany introduction of such components into a container. This is done by modifying the inner container's or container liner's surface by profiling and/or engraving it, or by including as a liner a mesh. The profiling and/or engraving or mesh serves to alter the formulation's flow dynamics such that the polyurethane has fewer and/or smaller voids, i.e., has a more uniform density, than polyurethanes formed without the modification.

The present invention describes cyclic amine compounds useful for catalysts for polyurethane form-forming compositions, as well as amine alkoxylates and amine polyether polyols formed form the cyclic amines. The cyclic amine compounds of the invention provide distinct benefits for reaction compositions, methods, and polyurethane foams based on their desirable physical and catalytic properties.

Cavities are partially or entirely filled with a polymer foam. A flexible, porous mesh tube is introduced into the cavity. The mesh tube has a volume smaller than that of the cavity and has openings. A foamable liquid mixture is introduced into the mesh tube. Despite the presence of the openings, the foamable liquid mixture does not pass through the openings in the mesh tube. The captured liquid composition then expands. As the composition expands, it flows through the openings in the mesh tube and makes contact with the walls of the cavity. After curing, a polymer foam is obtained which adheres to the cavity walls.

Amine-initiated polyols and rigid polyurethane foam made therefrom

Disclosed is a process for preparing a rigid, hydrocarbon blown, polyurethane foam by reacting a polyisocyanate with a polyol composition comprising a fatty oil. The fatty oil has a fatty acid content, especially a hydroxyl-substituted fatty acid, which enhances the miscibility of the hydrocarbon blowing agent. A preferred fatty oil is castor oil comprising as principle constituent the hydroxyl-substituted fatty acid, ricinoleic acid. Enhanced storage stability of a polyol composition containing hydrocarbon blowing agent in amounts required for production of low density foam is observed.
