The disclosure relates to a device and positron emission tomography (PET) scanner for acquiring a PET image and a system for generating the PET image. The disclosure describes a device that may have one or more moveable portions. The device may comprise an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion and lower portion define a cavity for a patient. At least one of the upper portion or the lower portion may be movable. The upper and lower portions may comprise a cap and wings, respectively, At least one of the caps and/or wings may comprise one or more detection modules. The wings may also move with respect to a corresponding cap.

High resolution and high sensitivity PET scanner with prism-PET detector modules

Scintillating glass ceramics are disclosed. The scintillating glass ceramics may be used as an x-ray conversion layer (screen) for a flat panel imager (FPD) and as part of an imaging system. The FPD may have a single screen or a dual screen. The scintillating glass ceramics may be used for either a front screen or a back screen. The scintillating glass ceramics may be used for high energy x-ray applications including for energies of about 0.3 to about 20 MeV. A build-up layer may be attached to the scintillating glass ceramics for high energy applications. The scintillating glass ceramics may include a glass matrix hosting luminescent centers and light scattering centers. The materials used for the luminescent centers and light scattering centers may be the same or different. The scintillating glass ceramics may be coated onto a glass substrate.

The structure may further include a photosensor array disposed between the first screen and the second screen such that the photosensor array directly contacts the first screen or is directly attached to the first screen using an optical adhesive and directly contacts the second screen or is directly attached to the second screen using an optical adhesive.

Structures operable to detect radiation are described. An imaging system is also described having the structures. For example, a structure may include two screens and a photosensor array between the two screens. One of the screens is comprised of a scintillating glass substrate. The scintillating glass substrate may serve two purposes. The scintillating glass substrate converts incident x-rays into light photons. Additionally, the scintillating glass substrate is a substrate for the photosensor array. The photosensor array is configured to detect light photons that reach the photosensor array from both screens.

A hybrid radiation imaging sensor includes a low x-ray attenuating substrate, a photoconductor disposed over the substrate, and a scintillator disposed over the photoconductor. By combining direct x-ray conversion to electron-hole pairs in the photo-conductor with indirect conversion of x-rays downstream of the photoconductor within the scintillator, improved x-ray imaging can be attained through an electronic readout located upstream of both the photoconductor and the scintillator without the need for excessive x-ray dosing.
