A device with a microphone and a condensation collection apparatus to prevent migration of condensation to the microphone is provided. The device comprises a microphone; a board having an acoustic port therethrough, the microphone positioned to accept sound through the acoustic port; a moisture-resistant, acoustically transparent membrane over the acoustic port; an outer membrane that receives the sound for the microphone, the outer membrane being non-permeable to at least moisture; and a condensation collection apparatus between the outer membrane and the acoustically transparent membrane. The condensation collection apparatus comprises: an aperture through which the sound from the outer membrane passes; and one or more condensation collection features, at an outer-membrane facing side of the condensation collection apparatus, configured to: collect condensation that migrates from an inner side of the outer membrane; and prevent migration of the condensation, that is collected, through the aperture.

A portable radio includes a housing having a front display. The front display includes a liquid crystal display structure, a first layer of touch panel rear glass disposed exterior to the liquid crystal display structure, and a second layer of touch panel front glass disposed exterior to the first layer of touch panel rear glass. The second layer of touch panel front glass provides a viewable surface and user interface. The front display also includes a vacuum layer disposed between the first layer of touch panel rear glass and the second layer of touch panel front glass, and a plurality of spacers disposed in the vacuum layer that maintain a gap. The front display also includes a seal that at least partially seals and maintains a vacuum within the vacuum layer.

A first portion of the electrical contact extends from the aperture in the second direction and is configured to deflect toward the first wall along the second direction. As the control knob () is rotated, the shaft extender (), toothed gear element () and shaft (), all turn in cooperation. The toothed gear element () is loaded by the ball plunger thereby generating a clicking tactile feedback in response to the control knob () being rotated. A large control knob (), suitable for a ruggedized environment, can thus be used in conjunction with a small rotary switch control () for improved tactile feedback while maximizing internal space efficiency.

The alignment guide () may further provide a light guide () which can operate as a third guide post for the radio ().

A control assembly () for a communication device includes a housing having a light permeable portion (), along with a rotary control formed of a shaft (), a knob () or belt () each having a surface, and a light shining light through the light permeable portion onto the surface. Light sensitive motion detection circuitry () detects movement of the surface through the light permeable portion (). The control can be implemented in high profile, low profile, scroll and slider bar embodiments, all providing a sealed environment to the communication device.

A connector assembly () provides improved locking and retention through the use of a cylindrical body () having locking arms () extending therefrom and a malleable collar () that includes an integrally molded interior lip () and exterior bumps (). The malleable collar () is slid over a portion of the cylindrical body () such that the bumps () align with the locking arms (). Upon insertion of the connector () into a housing receptacle, the locking arms () compress the bumps () thereby providing resistance to aid with retention while the interior lip () abuts the cylindrical body () which facilitates sealing the receptacle.
