A network defense system can include a sensor alert ingestion framework adapted to monitor network activity and alert detected or suspected anomalies. A network analyzer may be coupled to the sensor alert ingestion framework to analyze the anomalies. A course of action (CoA) simulator may be coupled to the network analyzer adapted to generate a list of decision including courses of action to address the anomalies. There may be a training and feedback unit coupled to the CoA simulator to train the system to improve responses in addressing future anomalies.

In one of many possible embodiments, a system includes a gateway located at a subscriber premises. The gateway is configured to bridge, at the subscriber premises, a voice communication between an Internet Protocol ('IP') network and a voice communication service available at the subscriber premises. In certain embodiments, the gateway is configured to bridge the voice communication from the IP network to at least one of a Public-Switched Telephone Network ('PSTN') service, a Voice over Internet Protocol (&#x201c;VoIP&#x201d;) service, and a video phone service at the subscriber premises. The disclosed examples provide techniques for simulation of a wireless mobile network that includes block level simulation of burst errors. The simulation allows input of a variable burst error rate to a system level simulation of a communications network. Theoretical error rates are replaced with variable burst error rates in the simulation. Injecting burst errors at the system level provides a network simulation that more realistically reflects the effects of burst errors on network performance.

A computer-implemented method may include receiving transition information indicative of transition rates associated with a plurality of communication links in a network, wherein the network includes a plurality of nodes, the plurality of communication links, and a communication path between a first node and a second node of the plurality of nodes. The method may include generating biased transition information indicative of biased transition rates, wherein the biased transition rates are greater or less than the indicated transition rates and simulating the network, based on the biased transition information, until a transition associated with one of the communication links causes the communication path to transition to a different state. A network reliability parameter may be determined based on the simulation of the network.
