The present invention relates to antennas. One of the problems which arises during operation of antenna arrangements is that spurious signals are emitted from mounting apertures and other surface features associated with a rearwardly facing ground plane, for instance, mounting bolts which couple some of the radiated energy, and through coaxial cable connector ports. The effect of all these unwanted signals is that they will couple with other radiating elements to form intermodulation products. In receive mode these intermodulation signals can severely impair the received signal quality. The present invention provides an antenna assembly comprising a support frame,and individually mounted layered antennas,, wherein an insulator-conductor sheet such as a metallized plastics film,is interposed between the antennas and the support frame. There is also provided a method of manufacturing such a layered antenna and of receiving and transmitting signals by means of a layered antenna of this construction.

The present invention relates to antennas. One of the problems which arises during the operation of a linear array antenna with electrical downtilt is that cross-polar radiation currents are generated. These cross-polar radiation currents, if at the same frequency as the operating band of the antenna, interfere with the required gain of the antenna. The present invention provides a solution to cross-polar radiation currents with an antenna assembly comprising first and second apertured ground planes with an antenna probe feed network printed upon a dielectric substrate supported therebetween, the array of radiating elements having different phase input feeds, wherein an outwardly extending ground plane flange extends from one of the apertured ground planes. There is also provided a method of receiving and transmitting signals by means of a layered antenna of this construction.

A coaxial connector arrangement for transferring high frequency microwave signals between a coaxial cable and a further device is disclosed. In many present systems, the connector arrangement whereby microwave signals are passed from a coaxial cable to a device or the like at high frequencies has a tendency of radiating. Not only do the radiative emissions lose power, but this radiation can combine with the desired signals to form intermodulation products which further lose signal power and also distort the signal. The mating faces of the connector provide a malleable raised line portion which is disposed about the central conductor whereby a continuous line contact is defined on the mating components about the inner conductor, thereby preventing emission of high frequency signals which may interact with the intended signals.
