A teleservice server in a wireless network provides an interface between a mobile station and an Internet protocol network thereby facilitating data transfers between these elements. The server translates datagrams from the IP network into a format suitable for transmission over a wireless network that provides voice communication capabilities. The server also translates data messages received from the mobile station over the wireless network into a format suitable for appropriate transmission in the IP network.

Method and system for providing data communication with a mobile station

A mobile station subscriber can access data from an informational database and have it forwarded to a desired destination. A database associated with the informational database maintains subscriber profiles. When the informational database receives a data request, it uses a mobile station identifier to acquire subscriber profile information. Using that profile information, the requested data is forwarded to a destination designated in the profile in a SMS format.

Method of wireless retrieval of information

A mobile station can be selectively coupled to two or more networks. By maintaining an address translation table and introducing communication between the switching control units within the multiple networks, it is possible to provide notification to the mobile station of the existence of a communication request from a first network while the mobile station coupled to the second network.

A method and apparatus provide location based filtering for searching for information in response to a request from a mobile handset. Methods and systems to communicate data to a mobile station. A request to transfer data from an internet Protocol (IP) network to a mobile station ca be received. Whether the mobile station is registered in a first network of a plurality of networks can be determined. The plurality of networks can include the first network operating under a first protocol and a second network operating under a second protocol, and the second protocol can be different than the first protocol. If the mobile station is registered in the first network, the data can be adapted to be transferred via first network and transferred to the mobile station via the first network.

A method provides for the detection of the geographic location of a mobile station within a mobile network. The mobile station detects signal characteristics for signals generated by neighboring cells to create a report of signal characteristics corresponding to the location at which the mobile station resides. This report is then compared against the database of signal signatures identifying geographic locations within the cell in which the mobile station is known to be positioned. The signal signatures are then used to detect either an exact match or an approximate match to give position information of the mobile station within the cell.
