A preferred contact group centric interface for a communication device can be used to facilitate communications by a user. The user interface can be arranged to activate from a user's 'home page' on the display, from an idle screen that is accessed after a timeout period expires, or any other appropriate mechanism that activates the preferred contact group centric experience. A user selects the preferred contact group from among an array of the user's contacts. Once the contact group is configured, a minimal number of navigation/selection features is necessary to activate any number of communication modes available to the contacts. The contact group is configured such that simple and quick navigation between the contact members is achieved. The contact group can be presented in 2D and 3D arrangements, in any number of list or geometric configurations. A pricing plan can optionally be tied to each member of the contact group.

Preferred contact group centric interface

A service management system that enables a subscriber of a mobile telecommunication system to modify aspects of his or her service plan and have the modification to the service plan take effect immediately. The subscriber enters a modification request to an aspect of a service plan. The modification request is verified against a set of rules that defines acceptable changes to the service plan. If the proposed modification to the service plan is a valid change, the change to the service plan is immediately propagated to a billing system and to other systems that implement the service plan. The subscriber is notified when the modification to the service plan is complete, and the subscriber is billed on a going-forward basis in accordance with the rate structure applicable to the plan.

A system and method are provided for automating the implementing and use of presence information in a network and/or for automatically selecting the most efficient means for sending a message. In an embodiment of the system, presence information is transmitted to a presence server. The presence server then ascertains presence information for the entries in a user's network address book after a user's device provides presence information about the user to the presence server. This presence information can then used to determine whether a message is to be sent through session based messaging (if presence information indicates that a message recipient is available) or immediate messaging (if the other user is not available or no presence information is available). A system and method is also provided to automatically send the message using an efficient protocol.

System and method for the distribution and use of presence information

A secure operating environment for a telecommunication device is disclosed, where a trusted execution environment (TEE) can establish both first secure communication (SC) channel between the TEE and a security-enabled SIM card, and a second SC between a service provider entity and Trustlet application, which is a component of the TEE of the telecommunication device. The telecommunication device may include a processor(s), an identification module, and a memory including the TEE and a normal operating environment (NOE). The TEE can be operated by the one or more processors to establish the first SC channel, authenticate a service identifier of the identification module, and establish the second SC channel, prior to an execution of the NOE.

Secure environment for subscriber device

A bootstrap authentication framework may automatically provide stored authentication credentials to an application server on behalf of an application. The bootstrap authentication framework may receive an access request from a protocol handler to access the authentication credentials stored in a subscriber identity module (SIM) of the electronic device. The access request may be initiated by an application that uses the authentication credentials to access a network service on an application server. In turn, the bootstrap authentication framework may provide the authentication credentials to the protocol handler when a digital signature associated with the protocol handler indicates that the protocol handler is allowed to access the authentication credentials.

Techniques are described herein for deciding whether to unlock functionality of a telecommunication device based on one or more policies. A policy engine remote from the telecommunication device may receive, via a user interface associated with the policy engine, a request to unlock the functionality. The policy engine may then decide whether to unlock the functionality and, in response to deciding to unlock the functionality, may cause transmission of instructions to the telecommunication device to unlock the functionality.

A device-type locking procedure is disclosed, where a trusted execution environment (TEE) of a user device retrieves a telecommunication service plan type identifier stored on an identification module of the user device. The TEE of the user device then initiates a service authentication procedure for a telecommunication service provider of the user device, based on the received plan type identifier and in conjunction with an optional service plan provisioning process. A service plan indicated by the plan type identifier is subsequently compared to a designated user device service plan via the TEE. Based on the comparison results, a determination is then made as to whether the user device should be locked or unlocked, depending on the device's current operating state.
