A seal for hydraulically sealing a piston rod that travels axially into and out of a housing, preferably in a hydraulic dashpot. The seal comprises a preferably resilient-plastic sealing component ( ). The sealing component is provided with one or more sharp ridges ( , & ) that rest against the piston rod, is tensioned across an elastomeric component ( ), and is radially and axially secured along with the latter in a seal holder ( ). The sealing component has an axial cylindrical wall ( ) and a radial annular flange ( ). The wall rests snug against the piston rod. The elastomeric component is annular and is provided with an inner surface ( ) that tapers in toward the center of the housing and that the wall rests against. The outer surface of the elastomeric component is accommodated subject to radial tension in a setback ( ) in the seal holder. The object is a seal that will satisfactorily prevent the escape of fluid at low temperatures, whereby the sealing component will be subjected to minimal force at high temperatures. The radial tension accordingly varies along the axial height ( ) of the elastomeric component.

Seal for hydraulically sealing a piston rod

A piston-rod scraping ring ( ) of elastic material accommodated in an inward opening groove ( ) in a dashpot cap ( ) and especially intended to scrape water and dirt off a piston rod ( ). The object is to allow the ring to be easily inserted into the groove and secured there until the overall dashpot is assembled. The groove is accordingly higher at its outer circumference and its inner circumference ( ) is deformed, compressing the rim ( ) in place.

A piston (3) for a hydraulic dashpot for motor vehicles, mounted on one end of a piston rod (1) and dividing a cylinder (5) into a two compartments (6 & 7), with two groups of lines (8 & 9) arranged more or less in concentric circles and more or less paralleling the piston rod and conveying hydraulic fluid in opposite directions, and with disk-shaped check valves, to some extent in the form of stacks (15 & 26) of cup springs, at each end that block one group of lines in one direction at a time, whereby the valve that blocks the inner lines (8) comprises either two separated springs (11), one above the other, or a stack (15) of springs, whereby the springs or stack nearer the outlet (10) from the inner lines maintain or maintains one cross-section open for the fluid to flow through, and whereby, when the pressure of the fluid increases, the spring or stack at the other end opens another cross-section for the fluid to flow through and the valve that blocks the outer lines opens intakes into the inner lines. The object is an improved piston with simple means of obtaining a degressive curve in both phases. The valve that blocks the outer lines accommodates a resilient cap (21) that covers their outlets (19) and rests by way of a separated ring (22) against another resilient component at the end facing away from the outer lines.

Piston head for a hydraulic shock absorber

A stopper for a hydraulic dashpot for a motor vehicle. The dashpot essentially comprises a piston and cylinder. The cylinder is occupied by fluid and is divided into two chambers by a piston. The piston is mounted on the end of a rod that travels into and out of the cylinder. The stopper is mounted at the end of the cylinder the piston rod travels in and out of. The stopper accommodates seals and several annular components, and at least one of the annular components is attached to the wall of the cylinder. The stopper has an annular component in the shape of a cup at the piston-rod entry-and-exit end. The base of the cup-shaped annular component extends radially inward and has a circular hole at the center. The piston rod extends through the hole. The side of the cup-shaped annular component extends toward the interior of the cylinder. The cup-shaped annular component also accommodates an annular piston-rod aligning component that is at least partly surrounded by the cup-shaped annular component. The annular rod-aligning component has an axially concentric circular cutout for the piston rod to travel in and out through.

Stopper for a hydraulic dashpot

A hydraulic dashpot for motor vehicles. It essentially comprises a fluid-filled shock-absorbing cylinder alone or accommodated in an outer cylinder and a piston that travels back and forth inside the shock-absorbing cylinder on the end of a piston rod. The piston rod extends through a centering component at one end of the shock-absorbing cylinder or of both cylinders and the edge of the shock-absorbing cylinder or of the outer cylinder is crimped around the centering component. The object is to improve support of the pressure-impact accommodator. The crimping (4) creates a neck (5) at that end of the shock-absorbing cylinder (1) that the impact-absorbing cap (6) rests against.

Hydraulic shock absorber for motor vehicles

A hydropneumatic shock absorber comprises an outer tube centered on an upright axis, an inner tube coaxially spaced inside the outer tube and forming therewith an outer gas/liquid chamber, a piston rod inside the inner tube, generally coaxial with the tubes, and forming with the inner tube an inner liquid chamber, and a piston carried on the rod and radially outwardly engaging the inner tube, whereby axial displacement of the piston and rod relative to the tubes in one direction pressurizes the inner chamber. A foot valve between the inner and outer chambers permits limited liquid flow therebetween. An annular plug is fixed at the upper axial ends of the tubes and axially upwardly blocks the inner and outer chambers. A guide bushing in the plug surrounds the piston rod and an annular outer seal in the plug surrounds the piston rod above the bushing and forms with the bushing and plug an annular compartment surrounding the rod. The plug is formed with an inner passage having one end opening into the compartment and another end opening into the inner chamber and with an outer passage having one end opening into the compartment and another end opening into the outer chamber. A porous body is provided in the inner passage and a check valve in the outer passage permits flow only from the compartment into the outer chamber. An annular inner seal in the plug and surrounds the piston rod immediately below the bushing.

Two-tube hydropneumatic shock absorber

A load-carrying, shock absorbing strut is provided comprising an outer tube for carrying a wheel axle journal. There is slidably accommodated in the tube a shock absorber cylinder which is connected with the chassis frame. A downwardly emerging piston rod of the cylinder is fastened to the bottom of the outer tube. Between the shock absorber cylinder and the outer tube there is provided a lubricant annular chamber of constant volume which is closed off above and below by upper and lower guide and sealing rings arranged on the outer tube. A sealing ring is arranged above each guide ring with axially limited play and comprise lubricant-sealing felt rings. To effect good dirt-deflecting action there is present above the upper sealing ring a dirt-deflecting ring which has the dual function of limiting the sealing ring axial play as well as removing dirt from the shock absorber cylinder.
