A battery pack containing a battery of cells includes an outer casing (402) adapted to receive a battery of cells (404); a bonding surface (410) positioned along the outer casing (402); an inner casing (408) adapted to encapsulate the battery of cells (404) and having a surface for bonding to the bonding surface of the outer casing (402); and a bond provided at the bonding surface to bond the inner casing (408) to the outer casing (402). Also, a method for forming a battery pack comprises steps of positioning a battery of cells within a bonding surface of an outer casing of the battery pack; encapsulating the battery of cells with an inner casing, the inner casing having a surface corresponding to the bonding surface of the outer casing; and bonding the corresponding surface of the inner casing to the bonding surface of the outer casing. The battery pack and method for forming the battery pack reduce the weight and complexity in manufacturing.

Battery pack and method of forming same

A contact array (10) for electrically connecting an energy source (20) to a radio (12) and a charger comprising a circuit assembly (31) having a plurality of integral radio and charger contacts (38, 40) extending from one end of the circuit assembly (31). Two terminals (34) extend from a second end of the circuit assembly (32) for connecting to the energy source (20), and means for attaching (42) a component (44) to the top side (32) of the assembly (31). The means for attaching (42) are integral to the circuit assembly (31).

Contact array

A contact array (20) for electrically connecting an energy source (10) to a radio (35) and a charger (15), comprising a circuit assembly (40) having integral radio, charger, and circuit package contacts (52, 54, 56) extending from one end of the circuit assembly (40). Terminals (66) extend from a second end of the circuit assembly (40) for connecting to the energy source. A circuit package (60) is disposed adjacent the charger contacts (54) to electrically and mechanically support the contacts.

A removable battery package (10) having a latch mechanism (32) for attaching the battery package (10) to a radio (18) is provided. The battery package (10) comprises a housing (15) having an interior surface (30), an exterior surface (14) and sidewalls (16). Engagement means (32) are located on the interior surface (30) of the housing (15) for engaging a receiving means (22) located on the radio (18). Activating means are provided for activating the latch wherein the activating means comprises a recessed portion (12) located in the exterior surface (14) of the housing (15) transverse to the engagement means(32). The recessed portion (12) is designed so that by pressing the sidewalls (16) of the housing (15) a portion of the housing (24) is temporarily outwardly deformed thereby disengaging the engagement means (32).

Battery latch

A consumer insertable battery pack assembly (70) comprises a plurality of substantially parallelipiped shaped rechargeable cells (61, 62, and 63) having a positive terminal (68) and a negative terminal (66). The positive terminal of one cell is coupled to the negative terminal of an adjacent cell. Insulation (17) is used on at least one of the terminals of the cells to offset the terminal location to prevent the charging of consumer insertable primary cells. The cells are within a housing (74) having contacts (76 and 86) for charging being arranged and constructed to mate with the offset terminals (68 and 66 respectively) of the cells. In this manner, the cells are unable to mate with the terminals of consumer inserted primary cells having centrally located terminals.

Rechargeable cell or cell pack contact configuration

A battery pack comprises a first housing member (104) having an integrated latch feature (103), a header frame (111) detachably mounted to the first housing member, a plurality of cells (112) for insertion into the header frame and first housing member, circuitry on the header for coupling the plurality of cells and providing charger and power contacts, and a second housing member (102) being substantially laminar and being adhesively attached to said first housing member.

Battery pack

A cathodically protected battery comprising a battery cell (110) having positive (160) and negative (140) electrical terminals. A sacrificial anode (150) is electrically coupled to the battery cell and situated on an external surface (120) of the battery cell. The sacrificial anode is strategically located so as to be exposed to the corrosive environment, thereby negating the corrosion of the battery electrical terminals. A plurality of cells is also configured to form a cathodically protected multicell battery package for use in a corrosive environment. The multicell battery (200) comprises a battery housing (210) and a plurality of cells (250-300) within the housing. The cells are electrically coupled together so as to terminate in a positive and a negative terminal. Electrical contacts (221 and 222) are provided on the exterior (220) of the battery housing and the positive and negative terminals of the cells are connected to these contacts. A sacrificial anode (231) is electrically connected to the cells so as to expose the sacrificial anode to the environment.

A battery pack (10) comprises a housing having two members (2 and 4), a header frame (11), detachably mounted on at least one of the members of the housing, a plurality of cells (12) for insertion into the header frame, a plurality of leaded electronic components (30 and 40) on the header frame, and circuitry (21 and 22) on the header frame for providing intercell connections, battery contacts, charger contacts and for providing weldless circuit connections for the plurality of leaded electronic components.

Weldless battery pack

A shock absorbing battery pack (5) comprises a battery housing (15) having a plurality of cells within the housing. The cells each have a negative cell terminal (24) coupled to a can (20) and a positive cell terminal (22). Between the cell terminal resides a spring means (12) for providing shock absorption.

Shock absorbing battery cell interconnect

A battery housing assembly for receiving an energy source (10) comprises a chamber (20) for receiving the energy source (10). A retaining pad (40) having adhesive applied on opposed sides (42A-B) is adhesively attached in between the chamber (20) and the energy source (10) for applying a force (44) in a direction substantially opposite to an energy source displacement (43) which is parallel to the retaining pad (40).
