This disclosure describes, in part, techniques for using presence detection in order to switch between power modes of a display device. For instance, the display device may operate in a first power mode by deactivating a display. While operating in the first power mode, the display device may use a sensor to detect a presence of a possible object. The display device may then switch to a second power mode in order to verify that the possible object is an actual object. In response, the display device may switch to a third power mode by at least activating the display and presenting a user interface using the display. The display device may then receive an interaction. In response, the display device may switch to a fourth power mode by at least presenting content.

Presence-detection modes for display devices

Technologies directed to using at least three antennas and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) protocols are described. One method includes sending a first signal to a second wireless device with data that cause it to send a second signal at a plurality of times. The method receives copies of the second signal at a first time via a first pair of antennas and copies of the second signal at a second time via a second pair of antennas. The method determines first and second angle-of-arrival (AoA) values from the copies of the second signals at the first and second times, respectively. The method determines location information of the second wireless device, the location information including an identifier corresponding to a first field of view (FOV) corresponding to the first pair or a second FOV corresponding to the second pair and at least one of the first AoA value or the second AoA value.

Expanding angle-of-arrival (AoA) coverage with switching between three or more antennas for ultra-wideband (UWB) devices

Provided is a method for stably and flexibly performing ranging between a plurality of devices. According to an embodiment, a method of operating a first device for performing ranging by using ultra-wide band (UWB) may include: transmitting a first ranging control (RC) frame to a second device; performing ranging with the second device for a number of ranging rounds determined based on the first RC frame; changing at least one ranging parameter based on a change request received from the second device; and transmitting a second RC frame including the changed at least one ranging parameter.

A method includes obtaining signal information based on wireless signals communicated between an electronic device and a target device. The method also includes obtaining motion information based on movement of the electronic device. The method further includes identifying first location information based on the motion information and the channel information. Additionally, the method includes identifying second location information based on the orientation of the electronic device and the AoA information. The method also includes determining whether the electronic device is in motion. The method further includes determining whether the target device is within the FoV or outside the FoV of the electronic device based in part on the first location information in response to determining that the electronic device is not in motion or the second location information in response to determining that the electronic device is in motion.

Angle of arrival capability in electronic devices with motion sensor fusion

A method includes obtaining signal information based on wireless signals communicated between an electronic device and a target device. The method also includes obtaining motion information based on movement of the electronic device. The method further includes identifying first location information based on the signal information, the first location information indicating whether the target device is within a field of view (FoV) of the electronic device. Additionally, the method includes identifying second location information based on the motion information and the signal information, the second location information indicating whether the target device is within the FoV of the electronic device. The method also includes determining that the target device is within the FoV or outside the FoV of the electronic device based on at least one of the first location information or the second location information.

The method and apparatus comprises: identifying at least one set of bit strings to generate a ranging scrambled timestamp sequence (STS); identifying at least one initialization vector (IV) field corresponding to the at least one set of bit strings, wherein the at least one IV field comprises a 4-octet string; generating a ranging STS key and IV information element (RSKI IE) that includes the at least one IV field to convey and align a seed that is used to generate the ranging STS; and transmitting, to a second network entity, the generated RSKI IE for updating the ranging STS of the second network entity.

A method includes obtaining channel information, range information, and angle of arrival (AoA) information based on wireless signals communicated between an electronic device and an external electronic device. The method also includes generating an initial prediction of a presence of the external electronic device relative to a field of view (FoV) of the electronic device based on the channel information and at least one of the range information or the AoA information. The initial prediction includes an indication of whether the external electronic device is within the FoV or outside the FoV of the electronic device. The method further includes performing, using a tracking filter, a smoothing operation on the range information and the AoA information. Additionally, the method includes determining that the external electronic device is within the FoV of the electronic device based on the AoA information, the smoothed AoA information, and the initial prediction.

The method comprises: identifying, in a ranging block, one or more ranging rounds to transmit a ranging control message (RCM) and ranging ancillary data; generating the RCM including an advanced ranging control information element (ARC IE) that includes a ranging method field, wherein the ranging method field includes a value that indicates whether a ranging round following the RCM is used for ranging ancillary information exchange; transmitting, to a second network entity, the ranging ancillary data in the ranging round following the RCM when the value included in the ranging method field corresponds to ranging ancillary information exchange; and receiving, from the second network entity, an acknowledgement (ACK) corresponding to the ranging ancillary data.
