A device includes a substrate and at least one electrically conducting portion supported by the substrate, the at least one electrically conducting portion including a signal line and a ground plane electrically isolated from the signal line. The electrically conducting portion includes a layer of a first electrically conducting material and a layer of a metal oxide material including anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) and one or more nanowires (NW) of a second electrically conducting material each formed within a corresponding pore extending through the AAO from a first side of the layer to a second side of the layer of the metal oxide material opposite the first side.

Nanowire-based interconnects for sub-millimeter wave integrated circuit applications

In some examples, an antenna system includes a source antenna and a frequency selective surface (FSS) comprising a first section including a first set of horizontally oriented unit cells, a second section including a second set of horizontally oriented unit cells, and a third section between the first section and the second section, the third section including a set of vertically oriented unit cells, wherein the first section is substantially square in shape, and wherein the second section is substantially square in shape. The source antenna is configured to emit one or more electromagnetic signals through the FSS, wherein the FSS causes the one or more signals to form at least a first beam corresponding to the first section, and wherein the FSS causes the one or more signals to form at least a second beam corresponding to the second section.

Square aperture frequency selective surfaces in Fabry-Perot cavity antenna systems

An antenna system may include a source antenna, a frequency selective surface (FSS), and a second antenna or a fluidic channel associated with a housing. In both examples, the FSS has a first side and a second side opposite from the first side. The first side includes horizontally oriented unit cells positioned as multiple columns of unit cells. The first side of the FSS faces the source antenna and is separated from the source antenna by a defined distance. The housing is positioned on the second side of the FSS. In the latter example, the fluidic channel of the housing includes one of air or deionized water. The fluidic channel is positioned on a portion of the second side of the FSS that is opposite to a subset of the horizontally oriented unit cells on the first side of the FSS.
