A composition for facilitating delivery of biological agents, comprising a therapeutic or diagnostic agent and a supramolecular complex, the latter comprising (i) a block copolymer, having at least one nonionic, water soluble segment and at least one polyionic segment, and (ii) at least one charged surfactant having hydrophobic groups. The charge of the surfactant is opposite to the charge of the polyionic segment of the block copolymer. The constituents of the supramolecular complex are bound by interaction between the opposite charges thereof and between surfactant hydrophobic groups. The therapeutic or diagnostic agent may be an ionic substance, in which case the ionic substance has a net charge opposite to that of the block copolymer, the net charge being no more than 10.

Composition for delivery of biological agents and methods for the preparation thereof

A composition for facilitating delivery of biological agents, comprising a supramolecular complex including as constituents a block copolymer, having at least one nonionic, water soluble segment and at least one polyionic segment, and at least one charged surfactant having hydrophobic groups, the charge of the surfactant being opposite to that of the polyionic segment of the block copolymer. The constituents of the complex are bound by interaction between the opposite charges thereof and between surfactant hydrophobic groups. The complex may include an anionic surfactant having a biological activity, in which case the net charge of such anionic surfactant is no more than about 10.

Compositions for delivery of biological agents and methods for the preparation thereof

The present invention relates to diblock copolymers and more particularly to polycaprolactone-b-polyethylene oxide (PCL-b-PEO) diblock copolymers used in micellar systems, for delivering a biologically active agent to a site. There is provided a diblock copolymer compound comprising a hydrophilic block and a hydrophobic block, the hydrophilic block comprising a polyethylene oxide (PEO) polymer, the hydrophobic block comprising a polycaprolactone (PCL) polymer, the PCL polymer comprising a number of caprolactone monomers selected from 5 to 150, the PEO polymer comprising a number of ethylene oxide monomers selected from 30 to 100. The diblock copolymer compound of the present invention may be used to form a micellar delivery system for delivering biologically active agents such as lipophilic drugs to sites such as the central nervous system. The hydrophobic reservoir obtained enables a larger amount of agent to be incorporated therein, with a slower release and without the damaging effects that such high doses would induce with known delivery systems.

Diblock copolymer and use thereof in a micellar drug delivery system

Imaging material comprising a layer which comprises deformed particulate organic polymeric material such as flattened spheres, which has a memory for its original particulate shape and which is capable of recovering its original particulate shape upon the application of energy above a certain threshold. Examples of suitable particulate material include polystyrene, as it is obtained by emulsion or perl-polymerization in the presence of crosslinking agents, or polyethylene in particulate form, which has been crosslinked by the application of high energy radiation.
