A compact self-contained thermoelectric cooler (TEC) is provided by utilizing a DC to DC active power supply to provide compact size. The compactness and flatness of the DC to DC active power supply allows the unit to be completely self-contained. The compactness and flatness of the DC to DC active power supply allow the power supply assembly to be located on the hot side of the TEC. A non-planar barrier between the hot side and cold side of the TEC also provides compactness and allows the TEC to be completely self-contained. A mounting frame is disposed between the hot and cold side. The mounting frame includes a power pack cutout allowing a non-planar barrier between the hot and cold side. Electrical components of the power supply are mounted to a power pack heat sink. The power pack heat sink is attached to the mounting frame with electrical components protruding through the power pack cutout. Power pack cover is attached to the cold side of the mounting frame, encapsulating the electrical components and creating a non-planar barrier between the hot side and the cold side of the TEC. The TEC includes several moisture resistant barriers and thermally isolating barriers to improve performance and longevity. A moisture resistant barrier is provided around at least one thermoelectric module and around a power supply assembly. A non-planar thermally isolating barrier is provided between the hot side and cold side of the TEC. A power control system is provided to deliver maximum cooling power for a given design and a give set of operating conditions. Finally, a dual power supply may be provided to increase reliability.

Compact thermoelectric cooling system

A self-contained and highly portable assaying system includes a luminometer and a detector cap assembly. The detector cap assembly, which is structured with a first portion and a second portion, is capable of collecting a specimen, and causing a bioluminescent or chemiluminescent assaying reaction to be conducted in a light-tight environment within the detector cap assembly (devoid of any available ambient light). The luminometer is structured to be removably fixed to the detector cap assembly to sense low level luminescent emissions produced by the assaying reaction. A quantified result is subsequently provided to a user or operator that indicates the outcome of the assay activities.

Self-contained assaying apparatus

This invention enables a user to locate a missing remote control unit for an appliance, such as a television set, by causing the missing unit to emit an alarm. The television set includes a transmitter which is controlled by a switch mounted on the television cabinet. The remote control unit includes a receiver, capable of detecting a signal from the transmitter. The receiver activates an alarm, which can be audible, visible, or both. When the switch is depressed, and if the remote control unit is within range, the alarm will be activated, and the unit is easily located. The transmitter can be controlled by a timer which governs the period during which the alarm sounds. Also, the transmitter can be connected to a lamp, or other indicator, to show the user when the transmitter is operating. The transmitter and switch can be built into the television cabinet, or they can be housed in a separate unit which is attached to the cabinet. The remote control unit is powered by a battery, and includes a device for sensing when the battery current is low, and for activating the alarm when that condition occurs. In another embodiment, the circuit automatically switches the battery on and off, the battery delivering current only for a fraction of the operating time, thus prolonging the interval between required battery replacements.

Apparatus and method for locating a remote control unit

A golf club head velocity monitor is disposed at or near the golfer's hands. The monitor is preferably detachably securable to the golfer's hands or a golf glove, so that a single monitor can easily be used with any club selected by the golfer. An inferential determination of club head velocity may be made from the output of a single accelerometer disposed to measure centripetal acceleration in the direction of the golf club shaft. The monitor may provide other functions such as timekeeping or scorekeeping functions.

A minicomputer system is built-up and customized to monitor and analyze bingo game play entered into the system according to a soft-wired processing sequence, allowing a player to simultaneously play a large number of bingo cards with user friendly communication and announcements of near bingo and bingo wins, whereof the processor stores a large number of different entered bingo cards, a bingo game pattern to be played and analyzes and stores entered bingo 'called' numbers and determines a 'win'.
