A request router is disclosed for a multi-tier Content Delivery Network (CDN), each tier corresponding to a hierarchical layer of the CDN. The request router includes processing circuitry configured to: receive, from a first delivery node of a hierarchical layer of the CDN, a routing request to bypass the first delivery node for content delivery to a user equipment; and as a result of receiving the routing request to bypass the first delivery node for the content delivery to the user equipment, select at least a second delivery node for the content delivery to the user equipment.

A method and request router (RR) are provided for dynamically pooling resources in a Content Delivery Network (CDN), for efficient delivery of live and on-demand content. The method comprises receiving, at the RR, a request for a content from a client, determining a content type associated with the request for the content, the content type being one of: live content and on-demand content. The method also comprises, based on the determined content type, dynamically electing, at the RR, delivery nodes at edge, region or core for content delivery and grouping the dynamically elected nodes into a resource pool, selecting a delivery node within the resource pool for delivering the content and sending a response to the client including an address of the delivery node selected within the resource pool to be used to get the requested content.

Method and request router for dynamically pooling resources in a content delivery network (CDN), for efficient delivery of live and on-demand content

A technique for monitoring activity in a content delivery network is disclosed. A method implementation of the technique is performed by a monitoring component associated with the content delivery network and comprises extracting (S), from one or more event logs of the content delivery network, a plurality of IP addresses and a plurality of events associated with the plurality of IP addresses, obtaining (S) geolocation information for each of the plurality of IP addresses, generating (S), for each of the plurality of IP addresses, a geohash based on the geolocation information, grouping (S) the plurality of IP addresses by their geohash to determine a plurality of geohash groups representative of IP addresses having a same geohash, creating (S) a geohash index including, for each of the plurality of geohash groups, the geohash of the respective geohash group along with a number of IP addresses included in the respective geohash group and cumulative event information associated with the IP addresses of the respective geohash group, and monitoring (S) activity in the content delivery network based on the geohash index.

The root manifest file contains a base URL that points to the location of the content and a media link that points to the requested content manifest.
