A method of preventing or reducing chemotherapy-induced alopecia is disclosed which comprises administering to a host subjected to chemotherapy which induces alopecia an effective amount of vitamin D,or derivative or analog or active metabolite thereof. The amount is sufficient to affect prevention or reduction of chemotherapy-induced alopecia.

The present invention relates to compositions useful in the stimulation of hair growth. These compositions comprise a conditioned medium obtained from a cell culture of human mononuclear cells or a conditioned or extracted medium obtained from a cell culture of mammalian normal or transformed cells or cancer cells.

Hair growth stimulating composition

The invention relates to hair protective formulations which can be administered to a subject in a manner so as to protect hair follicles against oxidative stress. Additionally, the instant invention relates to a test model for assessing oxidative damage to hair follicles and to determine protection from same.

Hair follicle protective formulations

The present invention relates, in general, to a method of inhibiting alopecia, or hair loss, and, in particular, to a method of inhibiting alopecia induced by chemotherapeutic agents. The invention further relates to a composition suitable for use in such a method. Active agents for use in the above method include proteinaceous growth factors, such as EGF, and/or vitamin D.sub.3 or metabolites thereof.
