Mobile downhole tools with fairings and methods of using the same. A mobile downhole tool is introduced into a wellbore. The mobile downhole tool has a housing with a thickness sufficient to support a pressure differential between an interior surface of the housing and an exterior surface of the housing when the mobile downhole tool is disposed in the wellbore, and a fairing coupled to the exterior surface of the housing. The fairing is structurally distinct from the housing and is not connected to the interior surface of the housing. The fairing curves in a first direction that is away from the housing. The mobile downhole tool is propelled in the wellbore as the wellbore is produced such that the mobile downhole tool descends downhole against the upstream flow of a wellbore fluid.

A system can include a continuous circulation subcomponent, a robotic device, and a control system. The subcomponent can include a receiving area and can be associated with a drilling operation for forming a wellbore. The robotic device can include an end effector that can include a sensing device and tools corresponding to operations to facilitate continuous circulation in the wellbore. The control system can cause the robotic device to perform operations. The robotic device can align the end effector with the receiving area. The robotic device can determine whether a leak is present at the receiving area. The robotic device can connect, disconnect, or a combination thereof the diversion line with the receiving area to allow the continuous circulation during the drilling operation.

A distributed control system can be used to implement failover capabilities for control units that control well equipment during a well operation. For example, a system can include first well equipment that performs a first physical task and second well equipment that performs a second physical task different from the first physical task. Additionally, the system can include a distributed control system with a first control unit coupled to the first well equipment and a second control unit coupled to the second well equipment. Both control units may include a first control module and a second control module for automatically controlling the first physical task and the second physical task, respectively. The distributed control system can detect a failure of the second control unit and initiate a failover process in which the first control unit takes over control of the second physical task by enabling the second control module.

A method of managing an influx encountered during a drilling operation conducted with respect to a wellbore includes drilling a wellbore into a subterranean formation. Drilling the wellbore includes circulating a drilling fluid through a wellbore while operating a drill bit and monitoring one or more parameters associated with the drilling operation for indicia of the influx within the wellbore. The method also includes, upon detecting the indicia of the influx, determining, via an influx management model, an initial influx volume.

A centralizing perforating gun for perforating a tubular in a wellbore include a gun housing, perforating charges positioned within the gun housing and detonatable to perforate the tubular, and a centralizing system. The centralizing system includes an extendable member configured to move between a retracted position and an extended position. The extendable member is configured to engage a surface of the tubular in the extended position, thereby biasing the centralizing perforating gun away from the surface of the tubular.

An apparatus for controlling bottomhole pressure in a wellbore during cementing includes a sensor positionable to measure pressure in the bottomhole of the wellbore, a controllable valve, and a controller. The controller may be positionable to receive pressure measurements from the sensor and control the controllable valve to maintain a specified pressure in the wellbore based on the pressure measurements. The apparatus may be positionable in a bottomhole portion of the wellbore.

Multi-directional ultrasonic transducers useful for small downhole applications where two or more separate or larger transducers are too large. The transducer includes a backing material having two or more piezoelectric elements attached thereto. The piezoelectric elements are attached to the backing such that each elements transmit ultrasounds in different directions. An encapsulating material surrounds both the piezoelectric elements and the backing. Since the piezoelectric elements share the same backing and the same encapsulation, the form factor of the multi-directional transducer is greatly reduced in comparison to conventional transducer designs.

A downhole tool includes a tool body and an anchoring device integrated with the tool body. The anchoring device includes a contact pad that is at least partially external to the tool body, the contact pad having multiple stages with different thicknesses. The anchoring tool also includes a first linear actuator and a second linear actuator. The first linear actuator is configured to move the contact pad axially with respect to the tool body to align one of the multiple stages with the second linear actuator. The second linear actuator is configured to apply a radial force to the contact pad.

A downhole tool system includes a tool housing, a chassis located within the tool housing, and an electronics assembly positioned on the chassis within the tool housing. The electronics assembly includes a heat sink comprising an inner surface and an outer surface. The outer surface includes a tapered portion and in is contact with the tool housing. The electronics assembly further includes one or more electronic components mounted onto the heat sink, in which at least a portion of the electronic components is in contact with the inner surface of the heat sink.

An apparatus for obtaining a plurality of fluid samples in a subterranean well includes a carrier, a plurality of sampling chambers and a plurality of pressure sources. The sampling chambers and pressure sources substantially comprises non-metallic materials. One or more of the following: conductors, transducers, power sources, communicators, data memory and processors are embedded in the materials comprising the sampler apparatus. One or more transducers for measuring the temperature, pressure, and volume of the sample are present in at least one of the plurality of sampling chambers. Means for measuring the parameters of the wellbore fluid are also present in the sampler apparatus. Means for communicating measured data to the surface are provided in the sampling apparatus.
