A switchable power converter includes an input section that receives an AC input voltage and rectifies the AC input voltage and a switchable converter section operative to receive the rectified AC input voltage and convert the rectified AC input voltage to an intermediate DC output voltage. The switchable converter section includes at least one configuration switch operative to switch the switchable converter section between a boost converter topology, for low input line voltages, and either a flyback or SEPIC converter circuit topology, for high input line voltages.

Reconfigurable converter for multiple-level input-line voltages

A 0-10V dimming interface protection circuit generating an indication that line voltage is applied across first and second leads of the dimming interface controlling light output by a lamp, includes a first device for limiting current serially connected between a line voltage source and the first lead of the dimming interface, a second device connected across the first and second leads for detecting application of line voltage to the dimming interface and for generating a control signal, and a third device for switching, operated in response to the control signal, for causing an increase in resistance of the first device to thereby limit current to the dimmer interface and limit light output by the lamp. According to one aspect of the invention, the protection circuit also includes a fourth device for preventing spurious operation of the second device.

0-10V dimming interface protection circuit

A high power electronic ballast for operating one or more discharge lamps includes a power factor correction high frequency converter input stage in cascade with an output stage made up of a half-bridge resonant converter. In place of the conventional isolation transformer in the output stage, the input stage utilizes a single integrated transformer inductor magnetic component, thereby eliminating the usual output stage isolation transformer. The input stage is operated in a critical conduction mode which further improves the electronic ballast.

A ballast feedback scheme including a single stage current feedback inverter. To avoid overboosting of the voltage impressed across a buffer capacitor only a portion of the high frequency lamp current is fedback to the buffer capacitor during both ignition and steady state operation of the lamp. Ignition of the lamp is well controlled.
