Provided herein is a control system for a vehicle. The control system includes an engine including cylinders, each of the cylinders including a fuel injector associated therewith, a vehicle exhaust system coupled in fluid communication with the engine for receiving exhaust gas therefrom, a sensor coupled to the vehicle exhaust system to detect an air-to-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas, and an engine electronic control unit (ECU) communicatively coupled to the sensor and the fuel injector of each cylinder, the ECU including memory and a processor. The ECU is configured to store a sequence of operating states of the cylinders, determine, based on the stored sequence of operating states, expected air-to-fuel ratio (ATFR) value data, receive, from the sensor, actual air-to-fuel ratio (ATFR) value data, determine a difference between the expected and actual ATFR value data, and control operation of the fuel injector based on the determined difference.

Systems and methods for controlling a vehicle engine

An apparatus is provided with a dampening unit coupled to an engine. The apparatus further includes a control unit communicably coupled to the dampening unit. The control unit detects a gear shift in a transmission unit associated with the engine. The control unit further determines a dampening duration of the dampening unit at the detected gear shift. The dampening duration corresponds to a time taken for the dampening unit to absorb torsional vibrations of the engine at the detected gear shift. The control unit further compares the determined dampening duration at the detected gear shift with a preset dampening duration at a preset gear shift. The control unit further determines, based on the comparison, a torque control amount for the dampening unit to absorb the torsional vibrations of the engine. The control unit further controls the dampening unit based on the determined torque control amount.

Torque control based on gear shift

A variable displacement controller for deactivating one or more cylinder assemblies of a vehicle engine can include a processor for performing various operations and the operations can include: receiving data indicative of a requested torque and vehicle speed, determining a torque variable timer threshold value based on the received data indicative of requested torque and vehicle speed, initiating a timer, comparing the timer value to the variable timer threshold value, and selectively activating/deactivating at least one of the engine cylinder assemblies based on the comparison between the timer value and the variable timer threshold value. At least one of the engine cylinder assemblies is activated if the timer value is less than the variable timer threshold value, and at least one of the engine cylinder assemblies is deactivated if the timer value is greater than or equal to the variable timer threshold value.

Apparatus and methods for performing variable displacement control for a vehicle engine

Some embodiments are directed to a variable displacement controller for use with a vehicular engine. The controller can receive data indicative of ambient temperature and data indicative of at least one of engine speed and vehicle speed. The controller can determine engine torque value based on the engine speed, and determine a torque limit based on the ambient temperature and at least one of the determined engine torque value and the data indicative of vehicle speed. The controller can compare the engine torque value to the torque limit, and selectively activate/deactivate an engine cylinder based on the comparison between the engine torque value and the torque limit, such that the engine cylinder is deactivated if the engine torque value is less than the torque limit, and the engine cylinder is activated if the engine torque value is greater than or equal to the torque limit.
