Fall detection and reporting technology, in which output from at least one sensor configured to sense, in a room of a building, activity associated with a patient falling is monitored and a determination is made to capture one or more images of the room based on the monitoring. An image of the room is captured with a camera positioned to include the patient within a field of view of the camera and the captured image of the room is analyzed to detect a state of the patient at a time of capturing the image. A potential fall event for the patient is determined based on the detected state of the patient and a message indicating the potential fall event for the patient is sent based on the determination of the potential fall event for the patient. Techniques are also described for fall detection and reporting using an on-body sensing device.

Health and wellness management technology, in which events that relate to activity within the monitored property are sensed based on output from sensors located at a monitored property. Behaviors are detected based on the sensed events that relate to activity within the monitored property and, in accordance with the detected behaviors, one or more models are created based on a likelihood of similarly expressed events happening at similar times with similar characteristics. Additional behaviors detected after creation of the one or more models are evaluated against the one or more models to determine whether the additional behaviors are consistent with the one or more models. At least one action is performed based on the determination of whether the additional behaviors are consistent with the one or more models.

Techniques are described for replacing a keypad of an existing security system within a property with a communication-enabled keypad device with dual functioning capabilities as a communicator device and a keypad device. In some implementations, data is received from a security panel of a property. A keypad bus protocol of the security panel is determined based on the data received from the security panel. Sensor data is received from one or more sensors located within the property. A monitoring system command that is not specified within a keypad bus of the security panel is determined based on based on the obtained sensor data. The monitoring system command is converted to a panel command using the keypad bus protocol. The panel command is transmitted on the keypad bus of the security panel.

A movement-sensitive capacitive sensor includes a first conductive element and a second conductive element positioned adjacent to the first conductive element. The sensor also includes a first protective insulator and a second protective insulator sealed to the first protective insulator with the first conductive element and the second conductive element positioned between the first protective insulator and the second protective insulator. The sensor further includes a circuit configured to calculate, over time while a person is occupying the movement-sensitive capacitive sensor and moving while occupying the movement-sensitive capacitive sensor, capacitance values between the first conductive element and the second conductive element. The circuit also is configured to determine an occupancy state of the movement-sensitive capacitive sensor based on the calculated capacitance values, determine movement-sensitive measurements based on the calculated capacitance values, and transmit output based on the determined occupancy state and the determined movement-sensitive measurements.

Non-contact, capacitive, portable presence sensing

A capacitive door sensor includes an insulating plate that is located on a first leaf of a hinge that includes the first leaf and a second leaf. The capacitive door sensor further includes a first conductive plate that is located on the insulating plate. The capacitive door sensor further includes a second conductive plate that is located on the insulating plate and that is separate and spaced apart from the first conductive plate. The capacitive door sensor further includes a capacitance sensor that is electrically connected to the first conductive plate, that is electrically connected to the second conductive plate, and that is configured to detect a change in capacitance between the first conductive plate and the second conductive plate.

Methods and systems, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for providing an indication of a direction a person passes through a door in a property, the method including receiving, at a sensing device and from a control panel of an alarm system in a property, instructions to provide an indication of a direction a person passes through a door in the property; obtaining motion data using a motion sensor that is included in the sensing device; detecting the opening of the door using a magnetometer included in the sensing device; based on the obtained motion data and detected opening of the door, determining a direction a person passed through the door; and providing, to the control panel, an indication of the direction the person passed through the door.
