Miter saw with locking mechanism

Embodiments of the present invention include a locking assembly for a power miter saw of the type which has a base and a table that is rotatably mounted on the base about a center pivot axis, comprising a pair of oppositely facing arcuate surfaces on the base spaced from and being concentric with the center pivot axis, a clamp attached to the table for engaging the arcuate surfaces to lock the table from rotating relative to the base by applying a clamping force to the arcuate surfaces and not to the center pivot axis, and an actuating mechanism for operating the clamp.

Locking assembly for a power miter saw

A power saw includes a table configured to receive a workpiece, a saw blade and motor assembly, and a linear guide mechanism operatively connected to the table and being configured to pivotally support the saw blade and motor assembly. The linear guide mechanism enables movement of the saw blade and motor assembly along a predetermined linear path in a forward or a rearward direction at a constant level, and includes a first link and a second link pivotally connected by a first hinge connection. The first and second links enable the linear guide mechanism to maintain the saw blade and motor assembly at the constant level. The power saw further includes a locking mechanism which is fixed to the first hinge connection for locking the linear guide mechanism to prevent the saw blade and motor assembly from being moved along the predetermined linear path.

A hinge connection between first and second links, including a shaft; a threaded aperture formed within an end portion of the shaft; and a pair of bearings. The hinge connection may optionally include a spacer surrounding the shaft. In addition, there is also a bushing surrounding the end portion of the shaft. A threaded fastening member is inserted into the threaded aperture of the shaft. Upon insertion and tightening of the threaded fastening member, any axial gap between the first bearing and the bushing is eliminated. Also disclosed is a hinge connection with a split shaft, including two cantilever shafts, where a main axial portion of each cantilever shaft is seated within a bore of the first link; and a pair of bearings, where an inner portion of each of the cantilever shafts is rotatably seated within one of the bearings.

A power miter saw includes a base having a rotatable table and side. The side portions have a flat working surface for supporting a work piece. A fence assembly extends between the base side portions and has a front vertical contacting surface and an opposite rear surface, each of the base side portions having a generally vertical fence positioning surface extending downwardly substantially perpendicularly from the flat working surfaces. A securing mechanism holds the fence assembly securely to the vertical fence positioning surfaces.

Embodiments of the invention are directed to a miter saw comprising a base with a plurality of detents, a rotatable table mounted to the base, the table having a front handle portion configured to enable a user to angularly adjust the position of the table relative to the base, a detent system mounted to the table and comprising a moveable lever with a gripping portion and a detent pin on the opposite end thereof selectively engaging the detents, and a detent override mechanism for retaining the lever and detent pin out of engagement with the detents, the override mechanism comprising a moveable button positioned on the top of the handle portion, whereby a user can grasp the handle portion and gripping portion with one hand and move the button with the thumb to retain the lever and associated detent pin out of engagement with any of the detents.

A detent system that includes a plurality of detent recesses formed in a first component, a detent pin that selectively engages at least one of the detent recesses, a linkage connected to the detent pin, and a detent button that is associated with a second component. There is preferably a slot formed in at least one of the detent button and the detent pin, where each slot slidably receives an end portion of the linkage. The detent system is preferably configured and arranged such that applying a force to the detent button to move the detent button in a first direction causes the linkage to move in a second direction, which is different than the first direction, thereby resulting in disengagement between an engaging portion of the detent pin and a relevant one, or more, of the detent recesses. Such disengagement allows for relative movement between the two components.

Embodiments of the invention comprise an adjustable fence assembly for use with a power tool, that further comprise an elongated lower fence for attachment to the power tool, the lower fence having a base with an upper support and locking surface configuration extending along a substantial portion of the length of the base and a vertical front face for positioning a work piece, an elongated upper fence having a bottom surface configuration for engaging the surface configuration of the lower fence, the upper fence being releasably attached to the lower fence and adjustable relative to the lower fence along its lengthwise direction, and a locking mechanism carried by the lower fence and operatively connected to the upper fence for selectively applying at least a downward force and a face biasing force for securing the upper fence to the lower fence.

A preferred embodiment of the present invention is directed to a modular saw guard system for a power saw of the type which has a table top, a rotatable circular saw blade, the table top having an opening through which the saw blade can extend, the system comprising a riving knife mounted to the saw rearwardly of the blade and having a top surface and at least one aperture near the top surface, a blade guard and kickback prevention mechanism that is releasably mounted to the riving knife, the mechanism comprising a mounting channel configured to fit on and be releasably attached to the riving knife, the blade guard portion being pivotally attached to the mounting channel, the kickback prevention portion being pivotally attached to the mounting channel; and a lever mechanism for holding the mounting channel to the riving knife and for releasing the mounting channel for removal therefrom, the lever mechanism including a movable pin member for engaging the aperture of the riving knife.

A preferred embodiment of the present invention is directed to a modular saw guard system for a power saw of the type which has a table top, a rotatable circular saw blade that is vertically adjustable relative to the table top, the table top having an opening through which the saw blade can extend, the blade being configured to cut a work piece as the work piece is moved forwardly from a forward position to a rearward position, wherein the system comprises a riving knife mechanism releasably mounted to the saw rearwardly of the blade, a blade guard mechanism that is releasably mounted to the riving knife mechanism when the riving knife mechanism is at least in its extended position, and a kickback prevention mechanism that is releasably mounted to the riving knife mechanism.

Modular guard system and apparatus for a power saw

The present invention relates to portable hose carts for handling and storage of flexible hoses, such as garden or air hoses. The cart is primarily constructed of plastic components having a centrally rotatable spool for winding of the flexible hose, an enclosure for supporting the spool, wheels at one end of the base of the enclosure, and a handle assembly for tilting the frame onto the wheels to facilitate moving the device. The handle assembly is telescoping mounted and includes a handle mounted near the top of the handle assembly. The spool is rotatable by either a direct current powered motor or a folding manual crank. Power from the electrical motor is transferred to the spool via an infinitely adjustable torque transfer assembly. When the cover is in the open position, the direct current motor is operationally locked out, and when the cover is rotated into the closed position, the direct current motor is operable. The device may further include a reciprocating guide assembly that operates during rotation of the spool to rewind the hose into a compact configuration.
