Embodiments herein describe mitigating flexible modes in an airframe of an aircraft by operating a battery for the aircraft as a tuned mass damper. One embodiment comprises an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The UAV includes a flexible airframe, a plurality of propulsors coupled to the flexible airframe that generate thrust for the UAV, a battery that provides electrical power for the plurality of propulsors, and a suspension system that suspends the battery from the flexible airframe and operates the mass of the battery as a tuned mass damper to dampen flexible modes generated in the flexible airframe during flight.

Tuned mass damper for aircraft

Noise insulation may be provided by an anti-resonant panel that includes a base panel including a base panel core material and two base panel face sheets, where each of the two base panel face sheets is adjacent to an opposite side of the base panel core material. The anti-resonant panel further includes at least one stiffener-member positioned along the base panel in a defined area of the base panel, where the defined area is less than a full area of the base panel. The stiffener-member includes a stiffener-member core having a top surface, a bottom surface in contact with the base panel, a plurality of cells having walls that extend from the top surface to the bottom surface, and a stiffener-member face sheet that is seamlessly integrated with the walls of the plurality of cells along the top surface.

Anti-resonant panels

Example methods, panels, and systems are disclosed for providing noise insulation. Noise insulation may be provided by an anti-resonant panel that includes a base panel including a base panel core material and two base panel face sheets, where each of the two base panel face sheets is adjacent to an opposite side of the base panel core material. The anti-resonant panel further includes at least one stiffener-member positioned along the base panel in a defined area of the base panel, where the defined area is less than a full area of the base panel. The stiffener-member includes a stiffener-member core material and two stiffener-member face sheets the stiffener-member face sheets adjacent to an opposite side of the stiffener-member core material.

Anti-resonant panel and methods of making the same

A sound-damping panel. The sound-damping panel includes a first face sheet. The sound-damping panel also includes a core connected to the first face sheet. The core has a honeycomb structure. Walls of the honeycomb structure are embedded with a viscoelastic material configured to dampen sound in a pre-selected frequency range. The sound-damping panel also includes a second face sheet connected to the core, the second face sheet opposite the first face sheet relative to the core.

Integrally damped composite aircraft floor panels

A decompression panel assembly for use in an aircraft includes a body panel having an opening defined therein and a cover panel positioned within the opening and spaced from the body panel. The decompression panel assembly also includes an annular spacer panel positioned outboard from the cover panel and the body panel. The spacer panel is spaced from the cover panel to define a first annular flow path between the cover panel and the spacer panel, and the spacer panel is spaced from the body panel to define a second annular flow path between the body panel and the spacer panel.

Decompression panel assembly and methods of assembling the same

A method of installing a decompression panel assembly in an aircraft. The decompression panel assembly includes a body portion, a baffle member, and a panel member. The method includes coupling the body portion to the panel member, wherein the body portion includes a plurality of frame members defining a plurality of openings in the body portion. The method also includes coupling the baffle member to the plurality of frame members such that the baffle member removably obstructs at least one opening of the plurality of openings. The baffle member is integrally formed with the plurality of frame members and is configured for at least partial displacement from the at least one opening during a decompression event. The decompression panel assembly is then coupled between a sidewall and a floor panel of the aircraft.

Decompression panel assembly

Described are methods and systems for broad-band active reduction of noise in target spaces, such as spaces around headrests in aircraft cabins. Systems describe herein are effective over wide frequency ranges without causing undesirable amplification at any subrange ranges. Specifically, a system comprises a speaker and a resonator, both coupled to an enclosure. The interior space of the resonator is in fluid communication with the enclosed space of the enclosure, allowing the resonator to reduce the amplitude of unwanted amplification by the audio reducing sound generated by the speaker. The amplitude is reduced in a selected frequency range, which may correspond to an expected amplification for this particular system. The resonator may partially extend into the enclosure or may be completely incorporated into the enclosure. Some examples of the resonator include a Helmholtz resonator, a passive radiator, a quarter wave resonator, a pipe resonator, and an acoustic metamaterial.

Methods and systems for broad-band active noise reduction

An active noise control (ANC) system uses a proportional integral (PI) controller to produce a control signal based on feedback that comprises a combination of ambient sound and antinoise. The ANC system generates a corrected control signal based on the control signal and a configurable filtering parameter, and produces the antinoise under control of the corrected control signal such that the antinoise destructively interferes with frequencies of the ambient sound to produce the feedback. The ANC system uses a microphone to receive the feedback and provide the feedback to the PI controller.

Feedback-based correction of a control signal in an active noise control system

Active noise control (ANC) is performed within a vehicle. Suppressed sound is produced by suppressing frequencies of ambient sound above a threshold frequency that enter an interior cavity of a sound-suppressing enclosure disposed within, and spaced from, interior walls of the vehicle. A microphone disposed within the interior cavity of the sound-suppressing enclosure receives feedback comprising a combination of the suppressed sound produced by the sound-suppressing enclosure and antinoise produced by one or more speakers mounted to a headrest disposed within the interior cavity of the sound-suppressing enclosure. The speakers are controlled to produce the antinoise based on the feedback, such that the antinoise destructively interferes with frequencies of the suppressed sound that are above the threshold frequency.

Headrest-integrated active noise control

A decompression panel assembly for use in an aircraft includes a body portion comprising a plurality of frame members defining a plurality of openings in the body portion. The decompression panel assembly also includes a baffle member integrally formed with the plurality of frame members such that the baffle member removably obstructs at least one opening of the plurality of openings. The baffle member is configured for at least partial displacement from the at least one opening during a decompression event.

Decompression panel assembly and methods of manufacturing the same

A decompression panel assembly for use in an aircraft includes a frame including a first surface and an opposing second surface, wherein the frame defines a grille opening and at least partially defines a flow path opening. The decompression panel assembly also includes a face panel having a first surface retained against the frame second surface such that the face panel at least partially covers the grille opening. A retention mechanism is coupled to the face panel and is configured to retain the face panel against the frame in a closed position.

A decompression panel assembly for use in an aircraft includes a frame including a first surface and an opposing second surface, wherein the frame defines a grille opening and at least partially defines a flow path opening that are each defined between the first and second surfaces. The decompression panel assembly also includes a first panel and a second panel pivotally coupled together at a central hinge. A retention plate is releasably coupled to the first and second panels and is configured to move between a closed position and an open position. The first and second panels at least partially cover the grille opening in a planar position when the retention plate is in the closed position, and the first and second panels move away from the grille opening to a folded position when the retention plate is in the open position.

A return air bridge for use in an aircraft assembly includes an inboard portion configured to couple to a sidewall assembly at a bottom edge of the sidewall assembly and an outboard portion configured to couple to a structural member. The return air bridge also includes at least one support coupling the inboard portion to the outboard portion such that a return air flow path is defined between the inboard portion and the outboard portion. The outboard portion comprises a plate configured to direct an air flow along the return air flow path upwardly with respect to the bottom edge of the sidewall assembly.
