An interbody spacer for spinal fusion surgery includes a body configured for insertion within an interbody space between two adjacent vertebrae. The body defines at least one fastener-receiving opening for receiving a fastener for securing the body within the interbody space. A blocking member is disposable in the fastener-receiving opening for preventing the fastener from being withdrawn from the fastener-receiving opening once the fastener has been fully inserted into the fastener-receiving opening.

An implant trial includes a trial body and an indicium disposed in the trial body. The trial body is positionable in a subject. The indicium is designed and constructed to indicate a parameter of the implant trial. The indicium is radiographically visible when the trial body is positioned in the subject. The implant trial may be a trial spacer for vertebrae.

A retractor for spine surgery includes a body. Left, right, and center retracting arms are coupled to the body. Left, right, and center blades are operatively coupled to proximal ends of the respective retracting arms. A retractor adaptor is configured to couple the retractor to a mount.

A bone screw assembly includes a fastener including a shaft and a head disposed on the shaft. The fastener is configured to be anchored within a subject's bone. A receiving assembly is configured to be movably mounted on the head of the fastener. The receiving assembly includes a receiver disposable around at least a portion of the head of the fastener and defining a channel for receiving a rod member therein. A retaining ring is disposed within the receiver for holding the head of the fastener in the receiver. An insert is disposed in the receiver above the retaining ring. A saddle is disposed in the receiver above the insert. The saddle defines a cradle for seating the rod member in the receiver.

In accordance with one aspect, an instrument is provided that permits the precise delivery of bone fusion material, such as autograft or allograft material, to one or more bones during surgical procedures. In another aspect, a system and a method are also provided for percutaneous delivery of bone fusion material, such as morselized autograft or bone graft, in a minimally invasive approach through one or more relatively small incisions in a patient. In yet another aspect, an expansion device is provided having an internal compartment and being shiftable between an insertion configuration and an expanded configuration. Bone fusion material may be injected into the internal compartment of the expansion device and travel therealong for bonding to one or more bones approximate the expansion device.

Surgical system and method

The present disclosure provides compositions useful in regeneration of connective tissue, particularly bone. The compositions comprise a continuous matrix formed of a polypeptide crosslinked with a second polymer and further comprise particles of a porous, osteoconductive material dispersed in the continuous matrix. The composition can be provided in a dehydrated form. The disclosure further provides methods of preparing the composition in a clinically useful form, methods of using the composition in regenerating bone, and kits including the composition.

Implant devices for implantation within an intervertebral space are provided, together with methods and tools for use therewith. Implant devices of the present invention include an implant body formed of a synthetic bone substitute material, such as a nanocrystalline calcium phosphate material. The implant body and the methods and tools used therewith are configured to optimize strength and stability of the implant, minimize areas of stress concentration in the implant body and promote bone growth through the implant body and fusion of the vertebra.
