A system for controlling movement of a vehicle is provided and includes data processing hardware that performs operations comprising monitoring contextual events in a current, parked location of a vehicle, detection of a contextual event indicating an impending presence of a service vehicle requiring access to the parked location of the vehicle. The operations also comprise monitoring at least one vehicle sensor of the vehicle, the at least one vehicle sensor providing sensor data to the data processing hardware for use by the data processing hardware in determining the presence of a service vehicle in an area where the vehicle is parked and moving the vehicle from the current, parked location of the vehicle to a different location in response to detection of a contextual event or determination of the presence of a service vehicle in the area where the vehicle is parked.

A method of selecting a parking spot for an autonomous vehicle. The method includes receiving a parking request to park the autonomous vehicle at a parking infrastructure and determining a parking priority for the autonomous vehicle. A parking space is assigned for the autonomous vehicle from a pool of available parking spaces based on the parking priority determined for the autonomous vehicle. A departure status of the autonomous vehicle is monitored to determine if the autonomous vehicle is leaving the parking space. The parking space is associated with the pool of available parking spaces based on the departure status of the autonomous vehicle changing to leaving the parking space.

System and method for selecting a parking spot for a vehicle

Presented are intelligent vehicle communications (comm) systems provisioning enhanced vehicle-to-everything (V2X) wireless mesh network (WMN) hop propagation, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such systems. A method of controlling operation of a host vehicle includes a vehicle controller determining the host vehicle is incapacitated and then detecting the host vehicle's wireless comm device is unable to connect to a cellular or satellite communications system. Responsive to such insufficient connectivity, the controller broadcasts a V2X WMN distress message containing data specific to the host vehicle and data specific to the host vehicle's incapacitating event. Upon receipt of the distress message, a recipient vehicle's controller determines if a prior distress message for the incapacitating vehicle event was previously received and if the distress message exceeds any preset multi-hop restrictions. If yes to either, the resident controller disables retransmission of the distress message to other recipient nodes over the WMN.

Intelligent vehicles and control logic for enhanced vehicle-to-everything wireless mesh communications

A system for managing a vehicle set includes a controller having a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which instructions are recorded. The vehicle set includes a plurality of autonomous vehicles each having a respective telematics unit adapted to communicate with the controller. The controller is adapted to receive notification of an event in real-time and identify at least one center of the event. The controller is adapted to determine a respective status of the vehicle set in real-time, including a respective availability and a respective proximity to the event. The controller is adapted to dispatch selected ones of the vehicle set to the event based in part on the respective status and assign event duties to the selected ones of the vehicle set. The event duties including forming a boundary around the at least one center of the event by being physically stationed around the at least one center.

A method of operating an autonomous vehicle. The method includes collecting user data regarding a user of the autonomous vehicle and analyzing the user data to assign a pickup score to the user for determining when to relocate the autonomous vehicle from a first parking location. The autonomous vehicle is directed to relocate from the first parking location when the pickup score exceeds a predetermined threshold. A second parking location and a parking position are determined for the autonomous vehicle at a pickup location based on the user data when relocating the autonomous vehicle to pick up the user.

A system of providing audio description in a vehicle includes one or more vehicle sensors configured to provide perception data. An audio unit is adapted to transmit an audio signal inside the vehicle. The system includes a controller having a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which instructions are recorded. The controller is adapted to identify elements in a scene in proximity to the vehicle based in part on input data from a plurality of source, including the perception data from the vehicle sensors. The controller is adapted to generate output data based in part on the elements identified in the scene. The output data is merged into one or more cohesive sentences for the audio description. The controller is adapted to determine an output sequence for the audio description based on a predefined list of priorities and transmit the audio description through the audio unit in the output sequence.

System and method for real-time audio description in a vehicle

Methods and systems are provided that include sensors and a processor of a vehicle that is configured to tow a trailer. The sensors are configured to obtain sensor data pertaining to surroundings of the trailer. The processor is coupled to the sensors, and is configured to at least facilitate retrieving information as to a profile of the trailer, the profile including required clearances for the trailer based on extensions of the trailer that are configured to be retracted while the trailer is moving and fully extended when the trailer is parked and the extensions are utilized; determining whether any obstacles are in a path of the trailer when the extensions are fully extended, based on the sensor data and the profile; and taking an action, in accordance with instructions provided by the processor, when obstacles are in the path of the trailer.

A system for assisting a vehicle having a trailer includes a drone having at least one sensor adapted to collect sensor data. The drone is selectively attachable to the vehicle. A controller is in communication with the drone. The controller is adapted to selectively execute an assessment mode, an operational mode, and a delivery mode, the operational mode being executed after the assessment mode is completed. The drone is adapted to conduct a set of initial checks during the assessment mode, the drone being adapted to fly around the trailer and/or the vehicle during the assessment mode. The drone is attached to the vehicle during the operational mode. The delivery mode is executed upon arrival of the vehicle at a predefined destination, the drone being adapted to be in flight during the delivery mode.
