A system and method of safely servicing a liquid-tight container installed in a location where flammable vapors or electrostatic shock exist, where the structure of the container is fabricated of a non-conductive material. The electrostatic charge build-up inside the container is achieved by coating the inside surface with a dissipative plastic and connecting the dissipative coating to a conductive feed-through with a metallic layer, where at least one of the metallic layer or the conductive layer extends over at least the region between a lower design fill level and an upper design fill level. The conductive feed-through is connected to a system static ground point which is isolated from electronic power supply grounds.

Efficient grounding of electrical connection with challenging bonding path

A filtration system is provided that includes a gearbox positioned in a geared turbofan engine. The system further includes an auxiliary lubrication system positioned in the geared turbofan engine and in fluid communication with the gearbox. The auxiliary lubrication system includes an auxiliary reservoir, an auxiliary pump in fluid communication with the auxiliary reservoir, an auxiliary return line extending between the gearbox and the auxiliary reservoir, the auxiliary return line configured to transport a lubricant from the gearbox to the auxiliary reservoir, and an auxiliary supply line extending between the auxiliary pump and the gearbox, the auxiliary supply line configured to transport the lubricant from the auxiliary pump to the gearbox. The system further includes a non-removable filter positioned in the auxiliary lubrication system. The non-removable filter is configured to prevent or limit debris that is suspended in the lubricant from flowing into the gearbox and/or the auxiliary pump.

Filtration system for geared turbofan tank

A gas turbine engine includes a fan and an engine core configured to provide rotational power during operation of the gas turbine engine. The engine core includes a compressor, a combustor, and a turbine. An oil sump is located in the engine core and is configured to collect oil from the engine core. The gas turbine engine further includes a gearbox configured to be driven by the engine core during operation of the gas turbine engine and an oil pump assembly configured to move the oil from the oil sump to an oil tank and/or to the engine core.

An apparatus and method of determining the level of a liquid in a reservoir having curved surfaces is described, where the measuring device comprises a support having a radius of curvature conformable to the curvature of the reservoir. A float assembly is captivated to the support so that it may move freely in the vertical direction, but is constrained in rotation with respect to the support by compatible asymmetrical structural features. The float assembly includes an element that can be sensed by a sensor assembly that is positioned along the support over the length of the support encompassing the range of fluid levels to be measured.

Oil quantity measurement apparatus and method

An oil delivery system is provided that includes a tank for a gas turbine engine, where the tank is positioned radially outward from a compressor section, a combustor section, and/or a turbine section of the gas turbine engine. The tank is configured to store oil for the gas turbine engine. The oil delivery system further includes a primary lubrication system including a sump of a power gearbox, a pump, and an oil feed line. The oil feed line extends from the tank to the primary lubrication system. The oil feed line is configured to allow a flow of oil to pass from the tank to the pump and from the pump through the power gearbox to the sump of the power gearbox.

Oil tank for geared turbofan engine

A method of starting a turbine engine utilizing multiple components. The turbine engine may comprise a gearbox coupled to a spool of the turbine engine via an output shaft. A first starter may be coupled to the gearbox via an input shaft. A first accessory may be coupled to the gearbox via another input shaft. The rotation of the output shaft of the gearbox may be coupled to the rotation of the spool. The rotation of each of the first starter and first accessory may be coupled to the rotation of the respective input shaft of the gearbox. The method may comprise applying a first application of power to one of the first starter and the first accessory and applying a second application of power to the other of the first accessory and the first starter.

A gas turbine engine includes a power unit and an oil system configured to lubricate the power unit during operation of the gas turbine engine. A gearbox is provided for use in a gas turbine engine. The gearbox includes a plurality of gears, a casing surrounding the plurality of gears, and a lubricant re-circulation system. The casing defines a sump positioned beneath the plurality of gears to retain lubricant. The lubricant re-circulation system includes a re-circulation pump, a re-circulation inlet positioned within the sump, and a re-circulation outlet positioned to supply lubricant to the plurality of gears.

Embedded auxiliary oil system for gearbox protection

A self-cooling fluid storage container includes a reservoir to store a fluid at a level that allows for an air space above the fluid. The fluid enters the reservoir. A fluid conduit receives the fluid at a fluid input opening to an internal fluid conduit that extends upward towards the air space. A heat exchanger portion extends sufficiently near the air space to provide a thermal exchange with the air space. The heat exchanger receives fluid to provide a cooling of the air space. The internal fluid conduit continues extending downward from the air space to a fluid output opening for distribution to a system that uses the fluid.

A gas turbine engine includes a first spool and a second spool. The first spool includes a compressor stage, a first turbine stage, and a first shaft configured to transmit rotational energy between the first turbine stage and the compressor stage. The second spool includes a fan, a second turbine stage, and a second shaft configured to transmit rotational energy between the second turbine stage and the fan.

Gas turbine engine system with synchronization features for gearbox operation

A gas turbine engine includes an engine core, a power gearbox, and a lubrication system. The engine core is configured to drive rotation of at least one shaft. The power gearbox is configured to transfer torque from the at least one shaft to other parts of the gas turbine engine. The lubrication system is configured to deliver lubrication to the power gearbox to reduce friction and cool rotating components within the power gearbox.
