A composition including inorganic fibers having a surface area of at least 5 m/g and an active agent incorporated into the inorganic fibers and/or applied onto at least a portion of the inorganic fibers. Products including the composition may include fiber aggregates, composite materials, filter elements, catalytic elements, exhaust gas treatment devices and other exhaust system components, and papers.

Activated porous fibers and products including same

A porous reduced silica fiber material has a diameter of about 0.1 to about 20 microns and a surface area of about 5 m/g to about 400 m/g. The porous reduced fiber material may be used to form an electrode having a high capacity and improved cycle life over comparable commercial silicon electrodes.

Treatment of tough inorganic fibers and their use in a mounting mat for exhaust gas treatment device

A mat for mounting a monolith, the mat comprising a first inorganic fiber layer, where the mat has a front edge intended to form a gas facing edge in use, a rear edge opposite thereto and side edges extending between the front and rear edges, wherein the first inorganic fiber layer at a first side edge of the mat, and/or at a second side edge of the mat is cut at an acute angle to the thickness direction of the mat.

A mat for supporting a monolith, the mat comprising one or more first portions comprising fibers at least partially coated with an erosion resistant inorganic (e.g. silica) gel composition or a precursor thereof.
