The invention provides a delamination-resistant embedded silicone hydrogel contact lens having an insert that is embedded in a silicone hydrogel bulk material. The insert is made of a crosslinked polymeric material having a refractive index higher than that of the silicone hydrogel bulk material by at least 0.07 and comprises a diffractive structure disposed on one of the front and back curve surfaces of the insert for providing a diffractive power that contributes to the overall optical power of the contact lens.

The invention provides a class of hydrophilized polydiorganosiloxane vinylic crosslinkers. Each of the hydrophilized polydiorganosiloxane vinylic crosslinkers of the invention comprise (1) a polydiorganosiloxane segment comprising dimethylsiloxane units and hydrophilized siloxane units each having one methyl substituent and one organic substituent having a phosphorylcholine moiety; (2) ethylenically-unsaturated groups. The invention also provides a silicone hydrogel contact lens, which comprises a crosslinked polymeric material comprising repeating units of at least one of such a class of hydrophilized polydiorganosiloxane vinylic crosslinkers. The invention further provides a method of producing a hydrophilized contact lens from a polymerizable composition comprising at least one of such a class of hydrophilized polydiorganosiloxane vinylic crosslinkers.

The invention provides a class of high RI polysiloxane vinylic crosslinkers. Each of the polysiloxane vinylic crosslinkers of the invention comprise (1) a polysiloxane segment comprising dimethylsiloxane units and aryl-containing siloxane units each having one methyl substituent and one organic substituent having up to 45 carbon atoms and at least one aryl moiety which is linked to Si atom through a linker having at least 2 (preferably 3) carbon atoms; (2) ethylenically-unsaturated groups. The invention also provides an insert or silicone hydrogel contact lens which comprises a crosslinked polymeric material comprising repeating units of at least one of such a class of high RI polysiloxane vinylic crosslinkers.

The invention is generally related to a soft contact lens which comprises a hydrogel lens body and a coating thereon and to a method for producing the same. The hydrogel lens body is composed of a crosslinked polymeric material comprising repeating units of at least one arylborono-containing vinylic monomer having a boronic acid group, and the coating comprises a layer of a phosphorylcholine-containing polymer which comprises (a) repeating units of vinyl alcohol, and (b) repeating units of 6-membered acetal ring substituted with a phosphorylcholine-containing group. The coating is covalently-attached to the hydrogel lens body through cyclic boronic ester linkages each formed between one of the boronic acid groups of the crosslinked polymeric material and one of the 1,2-diol and 1,3-diol moieties of the phosphorylcholine-containing polymer.

Methods for making composite products are provided. In at least one specific embodiment, the method can include combining a plurality of lignocellulose substrates and one or more free radical precursors to produce a mixture of the lignocellulose substrates and the one or more free radical precursors. The method can also include maintaining the mixture at a temperature less than 60&#xb0; C. for at least 10 minutes while retaining at least 11 wt % of the one or more free radical precursors charged to the mixture. The method can then include heating the mixture comprising at least 11 wt % of the one or more free radical precursors charged to the mixture to a temperature of at least 60&#xb0; C. to about 300&#xb0; C. to produce a composite product. The composite product can have a density less than 1 g/cmand an internal bond strength of at least 0.35 MPa.

Methods for making lignocellulose containing composite products

Binder compositions and methods for making and using same are provided. In at least one specific embodiment, the binder composition can include at least one unsaturated compound having two or more unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds and at least one free radical precursor. At least one of the unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds can be a pi-bond that is not conjugated with an aromatic moiety and can be capable of free radical addition. The free radical precursor can be present in an amount of about 7 wt % to about 99 wt %, based on the weight of the one or more unsaturated compounds.

Binder compositions and methods for making and using same

In some examples, one or more metal-containing catalysts and one or more waxes can be mixed or otherwise combined to produce an encapsulated catalyst composition. The wax can be at least partially coated on the metal-containing catalyst. A mixture of water and the wax can be agitated or otherwise mixed, and the metal-containing catalyst can be added to or otherwise combined with the water and wax mixture to produce a wax emulsified catalyst. A plurality of lignocellulose substrates, one or more oxidants, and the encapsulated catalyst composition can be mixed or otherwise combined to produce a lignocellulose binder mixture. The lignocellulose binder mixture can be heated to produce a composite product.

Methods for making lignocellulose composite products with oxidative binders and encapsulated catalyst

A method for making a composite product can include combining a plurality of lignocellulose substrates and a binder to produce a resinated furnish. The binder can be or include a polyphenolic compound, a free radical precursor, and an unsaturated compound having two or more unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds. At least one of the unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds is a pi-bond that is not conjugated with an aromatic moiety and is capable of free radical addition. The method can also include pressing the resinated furnish between at least two surfaces in a press, where at least one of the at least two surfaces can be a porous surface, and at least partially curing the binder in the resinated furnish to produce a composite product.

Methods for making composite products containing lignocellulose substrates

Methods for making lignocellulose composite products can include combining a plurality of lignocellulose substrates, calcium lignosulfonate, and a free radical precursor to produce a mixture. The free radical precursor can include an oxidant and a catalyst. The mixture can be at least partially cured to produce a lignocellulose composite product.

Methods for making lignocellulose composite products

In some examples, a method for making a composite product can include combining a plurality of lignocellulose substrates, one or more complexed metal catalysts, one or more complexing agents, and one or more oxidants to produce a lignocellulose binder mixture and heating the lignocellulose binder mixture to produce a composite product. The lignocellulose binder mixture can have a molar ratio of the complexing agent to the complexed metal catalyst of about 0.1 or greater.

Methods for making composite products are provided. In at least one specific embodiment, the method can include combining a plurality of lignocellulose substrates, a free radical precursor, and a polyphenolic material to produce a mixture. The polyphenolic material can be in a liquid form, a solid form, or both when combined to produce the mixture. The method can also include maintaining the mixture at a temperature of less than 60&#xb0; C. for at least 10 minutes while retaining at least 11 wt % of the free radical precursor charged to the mixture. The mixture can also include heating the mixture comprising at least 11 wt % of the free radical precursors charged to the mixture to a temperature of at least 60&#xb0; C. to about 300&#xb0; C. to produce a composite product.
