The disclosed technology relates to ashless compounds exhibiting neutral pH and having sufficient polarity to act as a dispersant. The disclosed technology additionally relates to the use of the ashless compounds in engine lubricants as dispersants for preventing engine deposit without degrading seals or increasing (i.e. contributing to) corrosion.

Pyran dispersants

The invention provides a dispersant viscosity modifier, and more specifically a metal free dispersant viscosity modifier. The invention provides compositions, including lubricating compositions containing the described dispersant viscosity modifier, such as heavy duty diesel lubricating compositions. The invention further relates to the use of the described dispersant viscosity modifier to improve the film thickness and/or antiwear performance of a lubricating composition, for example, a heavy duty diesel lubricating composition. The improved dispersant viscosity modifier of the invention is specially designed to protect against valve train and other crankcase wear in lubricating applications, including heavy soot conditions such as heavy duty diesel lubricating applications.

Dispersant viscosity modifiers

This invention relates to anthranilate esters and their use in lubricants, such as engine oils. The invention particularly relates to compositions that deliver an ash-free base to a lubricant in the form of a basic amine additive, without adversely impacting seal compatibility and/or degradation, and methods thereof.

The invention provides a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity, an additive containing a polymeric backbone and at least one amino group. The invention further provides for the additive to have dispersant and/or dispersant viscosity modifying properties. Reaction of a carboxylic acid-containing polymer with certain aromatic amines and polyols results in ester containing dispersant viscosity modifiers with improved soot handling performance in heavy-duty diesel engines, compared with non-ester containing dispersants.

Ester dispersant composition for soot handling in EGR engines

The invention provides a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and an amine-functionalised additive, wherein the amine-functionalised additive is derived from an amine having at least 3 aromatic groups, at least one &#x2014;NH2 functional group, and at least 2 secondary or tertiary amino groups. The invention further provides for the additive to have dispersant and/or dispersant viscosity modifying properties. The lubricating composition is suitable for lubricating an internal combustion engine.
