A fluidized catalytic reactor connected to a start-up heater is provided. The start-up heater provides sufficient heat to a catalyst containing stream to gradually increase the feed temperature. This allows for a critical volumetric flow rate to be achieved so that catalyst can be recovered from product instead of being entrained in product.

Process and apparatus for reacting feed with a fluidized catalyst with a reduction in catalyst loss during startup

A process for the treatment of sulfidic spent caustic, conditioned catalyst regeneration vent gas, C4 isomerization off gas, various and hydrocarbon containing liquid and gaseous streams in addition to toxic containing streams like cyanidic off gas and waste water in a propane/butane dehydrogenation complex is described. Various effluent streams are combined in appropriate collection vessels, including an off-gas knockout drum, a hydrocarbon buffer vessel, a spent caustic buffer vessel, an optional a waste water buffer vessel, and a fuel gas knockout drum. Streams from these vessels are sent to a thermal oxidation system.

Propane/butane dehydrogenation complex with thermal oxidation system

A start-up method for contacting a feed stream with fluidized catalyst is disclosed. The start-up method comprises reacting a feed stream over a catalyst to produce a gas stream and spent catalyst. The gas stream is separated from the spent catalyst. The separated gas stream is passed to a compressor. The operating condition associated with the compressor is measured. Based on the measured operating condition associated with the compressor, one or both of a supplemental hydrocarbon stream and a supplemental hydrogen gas stream is provided to the compressor to meet a predetermined operating condition associated with the compressor.

Start-up method for contacting a feed stream with fluidized catalyst

A process for recovering hydrogen from dehydrogenation reactor effluent is disclosed. A feed stream comprising hydrocarbons and hydrogen to a dehydrogenation reactor maintained at dehydrogenation conditions to provide a dehydrogenation reactor effluent. The dehydrogenation reactor effluent is passed to a cold box separation unit to provide a liquid hydrocarbon product stream and a recycle hydrogen stream. A return portion of the recycle hydrogen stream is passed to the reactor effluent compressor. The subject matter disclosed improved process and apparatus which enables the paraffin dehydrogenation reactor to run at reduced H/HC ratio without requiring an investment in a resized compressor or resized turboexpanders or separators in the cold box.

Paraffin dehydrogenation process and apparatus

A process is presented for the recovery of solvent used in an alkylation process. The solvent removes heavy hydrocarbons from a C4 stream. The C4 stream is passed to an alkylation unit to generate an alkylate product. A portion of the solvent is carried over with the C4 stream and needs to be recovered to reduce the aromatics content in the C4 stream, to reduce any deleterious effects of the aromatics in downstream processing.

Solvent recycle from heavies removal column

Systems and processes for heat recovery associated with the separation of hydrocarbon components. Two compressors are used to compress a portion of an overhead vapor stream from a fractionation column. A pressure of the liquid portion of the compressed overhead is reduced and used to recover heat from an overhead of another separation zone having a fractionation column. Once the heat has been recovered the stream is recompressed. The recovered heat may be removed from the recompressed stream in a reboiler of another fractionation column. The fractionation columns may comprise a deethanizer stripper, propane-propylene splitter, and a depropanizer column.

Process for recovering heat from a hydrocarbon separation

A process for recovering heat from the separation of hydrocarbons. The overhead vapor stream from a fractionation column is passed to a two stage heat pump compressor. The first stage of compression is used to reboil the fractionation column. The second stage is compressed and cooled passed to a separation zone. The liquid in the separation zone may be passed back to the fractionation column as secondary reflux, and/or recovered as liquid product. Heat may also be removed from the second stage. A suction drum on the first stage may be used to protect the heat pump compressor from any droplets in the overhead stream.

Processes for producing a polypropylene product by using a lower purity propylene stream. An operating parameter of the separation zone for a dehydrogenation zone effluent may be adjusted or controlled to lower the purity of the propylene stream produced by the separation zone. The reflux rate of propylene-propane splitter may be reduced. The duty of the reboiler for the propylene-propane splitter may be lowered. The number of stages in the propylene-propane splitter may be decreased.

Polypropylene production processes

Systems and methods are provided herein for cooling an olefin cracking reactor effluent stream. One provided method includes reacting a hydrocarbon feedstock including C+ olefins in an olefin cracking reactor to produce an olefin cracking reactor effluent stream, providing the olefin cracking reactor effluent stream to an inlet of a contact cooler, contacting the olefin cracking reactor effluent stream with a first quench liquid in a first contact zone in the contact cooler to produce a first bottoms stream and an intermediate vapor stream, contacting the intermediate vapor stream with a second quench liquid in a second contact zone in the contact cooler to produce a second bottoms stream and a cooled vapor stream, and removing the cooled vapor stream from an outlet of the contact cooler. The method can also include cooling the first bottoms stream to provide a cooled first bottoms stream, and cooling the second bottoms stream to provide a cooled second bottoms stream.

Two stage contact cooler design for hot water generation

Improved processing of an oxygenate-containing feedstock for increased production or yield of light olefins is provided. Such processing involves oxygenate conversion to olefins and subsequent cracking of heavier olefins wherein at least a portion of the Chydrocarbon stream resulting from such oxygenate conversion processing and at least a portion of a cracked olefins effluent stream resulting from such olefin cracking processing are processed with a dividing wall fractionation column to form process streams containing: a) Chydrocarbons, b) Chydrocarbons, and c) Cand Chydrocarbons, including Cand Colefins, respectively.

Dividing wall fractionation in integrated oxygenate conversion and product cracking

A processing scheme and arrangement for enhanced olefin production involves cooling or treating an olefin cracking reactor effluent stream by contacting the olefin cracking reactor effluent stream with a quench oil stream in a single contact cooler contact zone to produce a cooled vapor stream and to form a heated quench oil stream. A pressure differential across the single contact cooler is less than about 3.5 kPa. The heated quench oil stream can be subsequently cooled and returned to the single contact cooler.

Process for enhanced olefin production

A regeneration process for olefin cracking reactor is presented. The process utilizes the nitrogen waste stream from an air separation plant and the partially combusted effluent stream from the olefin cracking reactor is used to heat the nitrogen waste stream. The control of the heating of the nitrogen waste stream can be achieved through redirection of a portion of the heat from combustion to generate steam.
