This document discusses, among other things, systems and methods for robotically assisted implantation of an implant in a patient. A system includes an external positioning unit configured to engage an elongate member of the implant, and a control console communicatively coupled to the external positioning unit. The control console may have a user interface that enables a user to input motion control instructions. The control console may generate a motion control signal, according to a specific motion control instruction, to control the external positioning unit to propel the implant into a target implant site. The system may be used to robotically control the delivery and positing of a cochlear implant during a hearing-preservation cochlear implant surgery.

A trimmer razor includes a handle, a head operatively connected to the handle, the head including a base member defining a cam track, a seat extending from the base member, and a cover connected to the seat; and an extension arrangement connecting the cover to the handle so that upon rotation of the handle, the cover is movable between an open position in which the cover is spaced from the seat and a closed position in which the cover is clamped to the seat, wherein the extension arrangement includes a rod connected to the cover and a cam pin extending from the rod, and wherein the cam pin is configured to follow the cam track so that when the cover moves from the closed position to the open position, the cover rotates relative to the seat.

A cutting assembly () is configured for use with an electromagnetic tracking system (). The cutting assembly comprises a bur assembly () and a sheath assembly (). The sheath assembly comprises a sensor () configured to measure an electrical field around the cutting assembly, a wire () configured to operably connect the sensor and an external computing device (), and a sensor mount () affixed to at least a portion of the sheath assembly, the sensor mount configured to house the sensor and at least a portion of the wire. The sheath assembly is configured to receive at least a portion of the bur assembly such that any impact from magnetic interference caused by, for example, a cutting device () within the bur assembly on the sensor is minimized when the cutting device is cutting a patient's bone.

A razor treatment system includes a razor having a head, and a razor treatment device including a drum rotationally supported within the razor treatment device, at least two cam members supported within the razor treatment device, at least two guide members configured to cooperate with the cam members to expose the blade, and a first actuating member configured to effect rotation of the drum. The head includes a cover for housing a blade. The cover is configured to expose the blade. The razor interfaces with the razor treatment device to move the cover of the razor to expose the blade. Each cam member may define a cam track that guides linear retraction of the blade, rotational movement of the blade and cover, and linear extension of the blade into a position between the drums.

The apparatus provides for injecting therapeutic agents at precise locations into the bodily tissue. The apparatus comprises an end effector that is guided to a precise location by motion controllers on a handle. At a precise location, the end effector attaches via a vacuum to the cardiac tissue. A flexible needle is advanced through a deflecting tunnel in the end effector to a desired depth. A therapeutic agent is then introduced via the flexible needle into the cardiac tissue. All these manipulations can be controlled by one hand and can be viewed via imaging methods.

Method and apparatus for intraoperative cardiac tissue injection

Injector systems which include a syringe and a powered injector to inject a fluid into a patient are described. The powered injector includes a drive member, an energy source, at least one sensor for detecting energy from the energy source, and at least one contact member axially movable in the injector and in communication with the sensor. The syringe includes at least one indicator positioned at a predetermined position, such as on a rear surface of an attachment flange, which may transmit or reflect energy from the energy source to the sensor. The contact member may contact and be moved by the indicator when the syringe is attached to the powered injector, so that the energy detected by the sensor may be determined by the position of the indicator. The position of the indicator thereby provides information about the syringe configuration.
