This disclosure may generally relate to operations performed in a wellbore. More particularly, systems and methods may be provided for measuring the position of a tool and/or tubular string downhole. The present disclosure may be able to determine an accurate position change in a downhole tool without requiring surface equipment manipulation during measurement acquisition. A position measurement system may comprise a position measurement tool, wherein the position measurement tool comprises a sensor module and a telemetry module; and a marker, wherein the marker emits a signal measured by the sensor module.

Provided is a flowback system and method. The flowback system, in one aspect, include a tank, a transfer pump, a low-pressure vent line coupled between a vent of the tank and a first flare tip, and a high-pressure gaseous hydrocarbon line coupled to a second flare tip. In accordance with yet one other aspect, the flowback system includes a control system including a sensor, a valve and a valve controller coupled to the valve, the valve of the control system coupled between the low-pressure vent line and the high-pressure gaseous hydrocarbon line, the control system configured to sense an unsafe system event and actuate the valve to supply high-pressure gaseous hydrocarbons from the high-pressure gaseous hydrocarbon line to the low-pressure vent line.

A distributed control system can be used to implement failover capabilities for control units that control well equipment during a well operation. For example, a system can include first well equipment that performs a first physical task and second well equipment that performs a second physical task different from the first physical task. Additionally, the system can include a distributed control system with a first control unit coupled to the first well equipment and a second control unit coupled to the second well equipment. Both control units may include a first control module and a second control module for automatically controlling the first physical task and the second physical task, respectively. The distributed control system can detect a failure of the second control unit and initiate a failover process in which the first control unit takes over control of the second physical task by enabling the second control module.

Downhole interventionless depth correlation

A stress reactive valve includes a valve body disposed in a subsea safety system or other elongated components of hydrocarbon production systems. The valve body includes a frangible or breakable material such that when the subsea safety system or other elongated system undergoes a stress, such as a bending stress, the frangible valve body can react to the stress by breaking and thereby establishing fluid communication or a fluid path across the valve body. In a first or unbroken condition of the valve body, the valve body prevents fluid communication between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. In a second or broken condition of the valve body, fluid communication is allowed between the fluid inlet and outlet. The fluid communication can be used to actuate a device, or the fluid pressure can be used as pilot pressure to actuate a pilot operated valve system.

Stress reactive valve

The disclosure provides a well system component configured to reduce excessive acoustic noise that would otherwise interfere with acoustic telemetry systems. Specifically, the well system component includes a body configured to be coupled to a pipe string, at least one lobe extending radially from the body, and a pad disposed on the at least one lobe and extending radially from an outer radial extent of the at least one lobe. The well system component can be installed at critical acoustic transmission locations, such as at the location of a hanger, at or near a flex joint in a wellhead installation, and/or at or near a rig floor or deck of an offshore rig.

A method of supporting a pressure bearing wall against a pressure differential applied across the wall can include positioning a support structure proximate the pressure bearing wall, the support structure having a support surface formed thereon, and the support surface contacting the pressure bearing wall and supporting the wall against the pressure differential. A pressure bearing housing assembly can include a pressure bearing wall and a support structure which supports the pressure bearing wall against a pressure differential applied across the wall. A well system can comprise a well tool including a pressure bearing housing assembly exposed to pressure in a wellbore, whereby a pressure differential is applied across a pressure bearing wall of the housing assembly, the pressure bearing wall being supported against the pressure differential by a support structure.

A well tool with combined actuation of multiple valves. A well tool includes at least two valves and an actuator which actuates each of the valves, one valve being positioned longitudinally between the other valve and the actuator, and the other valve being operable in response to displacement of an operating device by the actuator. Another well tool includes a valve with a closure which displaces when the valve is operated, a volume of a chamber which increases and a volume of another chamber which decreases when the closure displaces, and a pressure differential between the chambers being substantially zero when the closure displaces. Another well tool includes at least two valve closures which are the only displaceable components of the well tool exposed to a first internal flow passage portion when one closure prevents fluid communication between the first and a second internal flow passage portions.

An actuator control system includes a housing assembly having at least one line therein for controlling operation of an actuator, and a modular controller attached externally to the housing assembly and interconnected to the line. A method of constructing an actuator control system includes the steps of: assembling a modular controller, the modular controller including a control valve therein for controlling operation of an actuator via a hydraulic line; testing the modular controller, including functionally testing the control valve; and then attaching the modular controller to a housing assembly having the line formed therein. Another actuator control system includes a housing assembly having at least one line therein for controlling operation of an actuator, and a modular controller attached separately to the housing assembly and interconnected to the line via a manifold of the modular controller, the manifold including a concave interface surface which receives the housing assembly therein.

A method of actuating a well tool utilizing first and second pressure sources includes the steps of: placing an actuator chamber in communication with the first pressure source, thereby displacing a piston from a first position to a second position; and then placing another chamber in communication with the second pressure source, thereby displacing the piston to a third position. A multi-position actuator includes an operating member which displaces to operate a well tool, a first position of the operating member corresponding to a pressure source being in communication with a chamber and another pressure source being in communication with another chamber, a second position of the operating member corresponding to the same pressure source being in communication with both of the chambers, and a third position of the operating member corresponding to the pressure sources being connected to the chambers oppositely to that of the first position.
