A light-emitting, antimicrobial tuber, instrument or catheter includes a thin, flexible tube having an optically transparent wall; and a light transmitter configured and arranged to emit light through the tube, which may be ultraviolet C (UVC) irradiation, photodynamic therapy (PDT), violet-blue light therapy, and other light-based therapies. In one embodiment, violet-blue light from 400-500 nm in wavelength, such as 405 nm, for instance, is used. The device is used on a patient and a therapeutic amount of light is administered to the patient, thereby reducing the risk of infections being transmitted from the instrument, tube or catheter to the patient, generally. The device may be configured for use in the urinary tract or as intravascular, and may be indwelling or temporary. Light may be administered for the duration of use or another time period effective to halt, inhibit, or reduce microbial or fungal growth.

Method, system, and devices of safe, antimicrobial light-emitting catheters, tubes, and instruments

A surgical implant for total wrist replacement (TWR) includes a carpal portion and a radial portion to fully encompass both sides of the articulated joint defining wrist movement. The carpal portion is defined by a unitary structure that defines a fused form of the scaphoid, lunate and triquetrum, and bears against the radial portion for permitting articulated motion. The radial portion replaces a distal portion of the natural radius adjacent the wrist, and has the form of a 'T' to combine a bearing surface with a stem adapted for implantation in the natural radius. The stem engages a receptacle or bore formed in a truncated end of the natural radius. Both the radial portion and the carpal portion patient-specific members are formed from image scans of the patient's own skeletal structures, and incorporate inverted, contralateral images of healthy structure based on an assessment of deformation in the replaced joint.

An antimicrobial light dressing device, system and method for a percutaneous treatment that bathes a treatment region around the percutaneous insertion with an antibacterial illumination source for preventing pathogens around the insertion from entering via the dermal puncture created by the insertion. The antimicrobial light dressing device combines a circumferential body centered around the insertion, and an arrangement of LEDs around the body that focus the light around the insertion and onto a therapeutic region of the insertion. An opening in the circumferential body has an articulated protrusion for offsetting a medicinal vessel such as an IV tube off the skin surface to avoid blocking light to an area under the vessel.

Antimicrobial light-emitting percutaneous site dressing

An integrated light device for invocation from a smartphone includes an antimicrobial light wavelength emanating from a utility light portal of the smartphone. Antimicrobial light, such as those in the so-called UVC range (about 222 nm wavelength) have been shown to effectively decontaminate irradiated surfaces against COVID-19 and other harmful depositions on the surfaces, with minimal harmful radiation to humans. Replacing or controlling a smartphone utility light, such as the LED responsive to a 'flashlight' function, allows the personal device to be invoked to quickly irradiate surfaces prior to use, such as sitting, eating, opening doors, and the like.
