Some embodiments may provide a method comprising accessing a list descriptor declaratively specifying a resizeability indication, selecting, responsively to the resizeability indication, a first linear size for a first list rendering, the first list rendering being based on the list descriptor, and generating the first list rendering based on the list descriptor and the first linear size.

Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a form author may declaratively state a condition under which a break event may occur to insert a break between data items in a list of data items. Optionally, formatting, a leader subform, and/or a trailer subform may be inserted between the data items in the event the condition is satisfied. Such a declarative condition may be introduced into an XFA template specification. A condition that may be evaluated may include mathematical operation, a Boolean expression, an integer expression, a floating point expression, a string expression, and/or a data item evaluation. A new layout of the list of data items may be implemented without transformation of the original layout of the list of data items wherein the list of data items may revert to the original layout of the list of data items, for example after performing an operation on the new layout of the list of data items.

Declarative, non-transformational layout of data

An interactive object property region displayable in a graphical user interface for an application program is disclosed. The interactive object property region is preferably automatically generated in response to a mouse pointer being moved over the object, but may also be affirmatively selected. Preferably, the region is initially positioned proximate to the object when generated. The interactive object property region, preferably a window, displays one or more properties of the selected object, and is interactive in the sense that the user can edit the displayed values in the region without the need to access further menu options in the graphical user interface. For example, in a preferred embodiment, the pointer can be moved from the object to the region to automatically change the displayed properties from a static display to an editable mode. Alternatively, the displayed property as soon as they are generated or can be editable upon affirmative selection.

Specification of tables containing objects is disclosed. In some embodiments, a table object contains one or more row objects as well as one or more objects with arbitrary (i.e. non-row) formatting. Common row and/or column formatting may be inferred and applied to objects associated with rows but not to objects associated with arbitrary formatting.

A system selects objects within a graphical user interface by displaying a plurality of objects within the graphical user interface. Each object has an associated set of properties. The system receives a selection condition defining a relationship to be met between properties of an object, and then applies the selection condition to the associated set of properties of each of the plurality of objects to identify a set of selection objects in the plurality of objects that have an object state defined by properties that match the relationship defined by the selection condition. The system then identifies each object in the set of selection objects.
