A pluggable light source device connects in a plug-in engaging manner with an optical modulating device that includes an optical modulator component. The pluggable light source includes a light generator to generate an optical signal to be output from the light source device, and a connection member disposed at a connecting end of the light source device. The connection member includes an optical connector, where the optical connector of the light source device is configured to engage with a corresponding optical connector of the optical modulating device when the connecting end of the light source device is connected via a plug-in engagement with a connection member of the optical modulating device so as to facilitate input of optical signals from the light generator to the optical modulator component.

Silicon photonics structures with pluggable light sources

A method is provided, including (a) upon a standard small form-factor pluggable (SFP) module being inserted into an SFP jack on a network host device, determining if the SFP module is a legacy device or a smart device, (b) upon determining that the SFP module is a legacy device, receiving a magic code from the SFP module and determining if the magic code is a valid magic code, and (c) upon determining that the SFP module is a smart device, performing a smart authentication process with the SFP module. Associated apparatuses and additional methods are also provided.

Counterfeit prevention strategy for pluggable modules

A converter apparatus is provided enabling conversion of data between different form factor pluggable standards. The converter comprises a first connector that connects to a first device according to a first form factor pluggable standard, and a second connector that connects to a second device according to a second form factor pluggable standard. The converter further comprises a signal processor coupled between the first connector and the second connector. The processor converts at least one of transmit signals in the first form factor pluggable standard to transmit signals in the second form factor pluggable standard and receive signals in the second form factor pluggable standard to receive signals in the first form factor pluggable standard. A controller in the converter is coupled to the processor and to the first and second connector. The controller configures the processor to be used for converting signals between the form factor pluggable standards.

Converter device to convert between different small form factor pluggable standards

In one embodiment, a networking device may include a network port and be configured to receive a transceiver module card in the network port. The networking device may detect whether the transceiver module card is a single channel card or a multi-channel card, where the single channel card includes a single transceiver module and the multi-channel card includes multiple transceiver modules. The networking device may transmit data to the transceiver card either as a single channel de-multiplexed over multiple lanes or as multiple independent channels corresponding to the multiple lanes based on whether the transceiver module card is the single channel card or the multi-channel card. The networking device may transmit data over each of the lanes at one data rate regardless whether of the transceiver module card is the single channel card or the multi-channel card.
