Systems and techniques for generation, storage, and updating of common floor plans across shared autonomous mobile devices. The systems and techniques include a central server having a floor plan stored thereon. The floor plan is updated by receiving an updated floor plan or updated data from one or more of the autonomous mobile devices. The floor plan is updated and subsequently propagated across all the autonomous mobile devices in the environment to ensure consistency and accuracy of floor plans.

Movement of an autonomously motile device may be controlled by a user device. The user device may display image data captured by a camera of the autonomously motile device; a user may provide input, such as a touch gesture on a display screen, indicating a command for the autonomously motile device to move to a location indicated by the input. The autonomously motile device determines a coordinate of the input and a time of the touch input; the autonomously motile device then determines a direction and distance of a corresponding movement.

This disclosure is directed to facilitating voice and video communication between users independent of a location or a device. A communication request can specify users, who may be identified and located in their respective environments. For example, users can be identified and located using facial recognition imaging techniques and/or by monitoring a radio frequency (RF) signal associated with a device that is carried or worn by a user. After determining a location of a user, individual devices can be configured as a functionally grouped device to allow the users to communicate. For example, capabilities of a television, microphone, speaker, and imaging device can be combined to allow a video communication between users. Further, as a user moves around his or her environment, the location of the user can be tracked and additional functionally grouped devices can be provided for seamless communication.

A hub is configured to provide voice control without assistance from a remote system, which allows the hub to provide a user with the ability to control second devices in an environment by issuing voice commands, even when the hub is unable to communicate with the remote system over a wide area network (e.g., the Internet). The hub is also configured to execute rules without assistance from the remote system, which allows the hub to execute rules, even when the hub is unable to communicate with the remote system over a wide area network (e.g., the Internet).

Traditional home-automation systems utilize a single hub for controlling secondary devices within a home. The techniques described herein, meanwhile, utilize multiple hubs within the environment and/or located remotely from the environment. For instance, an environment may include multiple electronic devices, each configured to control one or more secondary devices within the environment. In addition, a remote service may be configured to control one or more secondary devices within the environment. As such, each controlling device stores and executes an instance of a control engine, rather than relying on a single instance of a control engine located at a single controlling hub.

To reduce the reliance on software for complex computations used in machine sensory perception, a sensory perception accelerator may include a neural network accelerator a linear algebra accelerator. The neural network accelerator may include systolic arrays to perform neural network computation circuits concurrently on image data and audio data. The linear algebra accelerator may include matrix computation circuits operable to perform matrix operations on image data and motion data.

A robotic assistant comprises a plurality of sensors in a compact and unobtrusive form. One or more sensors may be emplaced upon a mast that may be selectively raised and lowered. The mast allows the robotic assistant to acquire images or other sensor data from a greater height, without substantially increasing the bulk of the robotic assistant. For ease of transport from one floor to another or from one building to another, the robotic assistant may deploy a handhold that a human may use to pick up and carry the robotic assistant. Floor characterization sensors may be used to determine characteristics of the floor such as if the floor is wet or dry. The robotic assistant may be used to provide a user with access to network services, to monitor a facility, provide telepresence services, and so forth.

An autonomous mobile device (AMD) with various sensors may move through a physical space without human intervention. The AMD may communicate with other devices, such as a user's smartphone or network enabled speaker. Security and privacy for end-to-end communication is provided that involves user interaction with the AMD itself. The sequence of data exchanges and the user interaction with the AMD helps assure the association is authorized and provide for a secure communication channel. Attempts to tamper with the association process, including a man in the middle exploit, are readily detectable and result in a failure. Once detected, actions may be taken, such as notifying the user.

System for establishing a secure data connection with an autonomous mobile device

A robot operates using electrical power. The robot is able to autonomously return to a dock to recharge its batteries. The robot may perform a variety of tasks that consume electrical power, such as performing video calls, presenting audio or video content, acting as a sentry, and so forth. Usage of the robot is analyzed to predict tasks that a user is likely to request. This information is used along with information about previously scheduled tasks and system tasks to create a list of tasks to be performed and when to perform those tasks. The tasks to be performed are calculated to maximize availability of the robot to the user while minimizing charge/discharge cycles, minimizing the extent of the charge/discharge, and minimizing the use of rapid charging. As a result, the lifespan of the batteries may be increased.
