A data acquisition system (DAS) includes a plurality of processors comprising at least one first processor and a plurality of second processors. The at least one first processor is configured to receive at least one configuration file and generate at least one measurement data application from the at least one configuration file. The DAS also includes a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) coupled to the plurality of processors. The FPGA is configured to receive the at least one measurement data application and allocate at least a portion of one of the FPGA and at least one second processor of the plurality of second processors to calculate measurement data at least partially based on the at least one measurement data application and an availability of the at least a portion of the FPGA.

Method and system for use in dynamically configuring data acquisition systems

Disclosed is a method for assessing deterioration in a gearbox. Data is obtained from an operating gearbox regarding harmonic frequencies and their related sidebands generated as a consequence of the gearbox operation. In a first embodiment, a Sideband Energy Ratio (SER) is calculated by dividing the amplitude of the sum of sideband signals associated with a harmonic to the amplitude of the harmonic. In a second embodiment, a SER is calculated based on sideband amplitudes associated with adjacent harmonics. The ratio may be monitored over time or compared to one or more values to provide an indication of deterioration.

Sideband energy ratio method for gear mesh fault detection

A system and method for monitoring the condition of a gear assembly analyzes a signal output by a vibration detector that is attached to the gear assembly. Each time that an amplitude of the signal output from the vibration detector exceeds a threshold value, the system assumes that a debris particle has passed between meshing parts of the gear assembly. The number of times that this occurs, and possibly the amplitude of the vibrations are analyzed to determine a condition of the gear assembly, and possibly a damage index. This system and method are particularly applicable to planetary gear arrangements where the vibration detector can be mounted on a fixed ring gear of the gear assembly, or a structure upon which the fixed ring gear is mounted.

Methods and apparatus for transmitting data between elements of a data acquisition system are provided. The method includes receiving, at a first element, a self-describing control packet including a first configuration parameter, the first configuration parameter controls first data acquisition by the first element, acquiring first data by the first element in accordance with the first configuration parameter, generating a self-describing data packet including an identifier for the first configuration parameter and the acquired first data, and interpreting the acquired first data using the identifier.

Systems and methods involving field programmable gate arrays

Providing TDM services over a packet-switched fabric. Distributed scheduling is provided by overlaying a synchronized frame structure on the packet switching of the packet-switched fabric. Contention-free scheduling is achieved by prescheduling TDM traffic with the distributed scheduling mechanism. The result is a deterministic timing procedure suitable for switching TDM traffic in a packet-switched fabric.
