The dielectric support material may include at least one hole therethrough for securing the flexible vibrotactile device to a textile by threading at least one fiber through the at least one hole. The disclosed computer-implemented method for determining a proximity status between electrodes may include detecting an amount of electrical charge an electrode among other electrodes that are communicatively coupled to an artificial reality device. The method may further include determining, based on the detected amount of electrical charge at the electrode, a mutual capacitance measurement that indicates an amount of mutual capacitance between the other electrodes. The method may also include determining, based on the mutual capacitance measurement, a relative proximity status between the electrodes, where the relative proximity status indicates a degree to which the electrodes are in proximity with each other. The method may further include providing the determined relative proximity status between the electrodes as an input to the artificial reality device. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

System and method for detecting mutual capacitance

A haptic device comprises a wearable material configured to a portion of a user. A vibrotactile actuator is coupled to the wearable material and provides haptic feedback in accordance with a drive signal. A driver circuit is electrically coupled to the vibrotactile actuator and provides the drive signal to the vibrotactile actuator. The driver circuit includes an alternating current (AC) voltage source assembly that has a first AC voltage source and a second AC voltage source, each having a terminal. The terminal of the first AC voltage source is electrically coupled to the vibrotactile actuator. A capacitive element electrically is coupled to the terminal of the negative AC voltage source and a regulating element. The regulating element includes a first coupling point and a second coupling point. The first coupling point is electrically coupled to the capacitive element and the vibrotactile actuator, and the second coupling point is grounded.
