Aspects of the present invention relate to an apparatus for providing driver assistance of a vehicle, an autonomous system, a vehicle, a method, a controller and a non-transitory computer readable medium. The apparatus comprises a first sensor and a second sensor mounted on a vehicle. The first sensor is configured to transmit and receive electromagnetic radiation to detect the presence of an object in a first area, and the second sensor is configured to transmit and receive electromagnetic radiation to detect the presence of an object in a second area. The first area and the second area overlap to define an overlapping area forward of the vehicle. The first area extends from the overlapping area to a first extreme direction having a rearward component and a leftward component, and the second area extends from the overlapping area to a second extreme direction having a rearward component and a rightward component.

Apparatus and method for providing driver assistance of a vehicle

There is disclosed a control system and a method for a host vehicle operable in an autonomous mode. The control system comprises one or more controllers. The speed and/or path of the vehicle in the autonomous mode is appropriate to a driving context.

A controller for controlling a vehicle, the vehicle comprising a detection means having a detection zone and a lateral non-detection region, the controller comprising: an input for receiving an object detection signal from the detection means; a processor arranged to generate a control signal for controlling a vehicle system in dependence on the received object detection signal; an output for outputting the control signal wherein the processor is arranged to generate a vehicle speed control signal to vary a vehicle speed about a current vehicle speed in order to bring an object within the lateral non-detection region into the detection zone of the detection means; and the output is arranged to output the vehicle speed control signal.
