A warning device for a respirator product with a valve (), which comes into action in a state of warning and releases a gas flow. The warning does not hinder the user of the apparatus and only a very small portion of the gas supply carried with the user is used by the warning device. The gas flow is brought into the range of perception of a person via a scent cartridge ().

A gas mask and breathing equipment arrangement with a storage tank for liquefied respiration gas and an air circulation duct intended for transmitting heat of evaporation from the ambient air to the liquefied respiration gas. A sufficient flow rate of ambient air will be achieved under all conditions of use by providing a fan (22) for delivering ambient air through the air circulation duct (20).

A gas mask and breathing equipment with a breathing mask with a respiration gas outlet and a respiration gas inlet, to which a breathing bag as well as a filter and a fan are connected. The fan is designed to deliver ambient air through the filter and into the breathing mask. A volume sensor is arranged on the breathing bag and is connected to a fan control to reduce the delivery output of the fan with increasing volume of the breathing bag. So that only the absolutely necessary amount of ambient air will have to be delivered through the filter, an air distributing valve (12), is controlled via a valve control means (17) and an actuator (14) as a function of the signal of a carbon dioxide sensor connected to the respiration gas inlet (2). The exhaled air is directed from the respiration gas outlet (3) predominantly into the environment when the carbon dioxide content is above a predeterminable limit value, and predominantly into the breathing bag (7) when the carbon dioxide content is below the limit value.

A circulation respirator is capable of excess-pressure operation with a compressed gas source and an auxiliary pressure arrangement which brings about an increase in the pressure in the respiratory circulation. The apparatus includes measuring circuit connected to a pressure sensor for controlling the auxiliary pressure arrangement. Excess pressure is maintained in the respiratory circulation independently of the respiratory phase. The sensor is arranged as pressure sensor in the respiratory circulation only if the pressure falls below a preset positive nominal value of the pressure in the respiratory circulation. A method of operating a respirator system which includes a respirator bag connected through an inhalation duct to a patients respirator gas connector to the respirator bag comprising sensing the pressure in a pressurized respiratory gas connection to the inhalation duct, and connecting an additional pressurized gas to the inhalation duct when the pressure in the said gas connection falls below a predetermined pressure.

The present invention pertains to a recirculating respirator for positive pressure operation, in which it is possible to switch off the elements generating the over pressure in case of excessively high oxygen consumption. A flow-measuring device is provided in the oxygen supply line, which is connected to a control unit. A warning device 36, and a switching device, for switching off the over pressure is also provided.

Recirculating respirator

A respirator for recirculating breathing gases, comprises an expiration bag in which an internal tension spring is provided for compressing the bag, and an inspiration bag which can be connected to a respiration gas source. A CO.sub.2 -binding chemical cartridge and an oxygen source is arranged in the respiratory circuit. A space-saving arrangement of the tension spring provided in the breathing bag is also used to generate a positive pressure in the entire respiratory circuit. The positive pressure exercised by the tension springs in the respiratory circuit can be reduced rapidly if necessary, and the operation can be continued under normal pressure. To achieve this, the inspiration bag 11 is provided with an internally disposed pre-tensioning spring 101 serving to compress the inspiration bag.

An air venting humidifer for breathing equipment which is installed in the duct draft of a ventilation air tube between a ventilation air source and a ventilation air connection piece comprises a multi-layered water-impermeable but steam permeable membrane. The membrane has a separation wall which is surrounded by a water-filled humidification chamber having a flexible outer wall. Pressure can be exerted on this outer wall by air pressure in a surrounding ventilation air chamber containing and conveying the ventilation air. The humidification output of the air becomes independent of the pressure in the interior of the hollow fiber air flow chambers and the humidification of the ventilation air is adjusted to the requirements of the user. For this purpose the outer wall of the humidification chamber is surrounded by an antechamber which can be filled with the ventilation air and which is connected with the ventilation air chamber by means of a throttle.

A closed cycle gas mask and breathing equipment for operation under pressure includes a gas connector connectible to a tubular fitting of the mask with an inhalation line and an exhalation line which open into a joint connection to a mask. The connection has a device for preventing the escaping of gas from the mask by closing the connection when the connection is undone from the mask. The wearer can disconnect himself from the cycle or enter it without a considerable loss of gas. For this purpose the connector has a non-return valve which when disconnected blocks the breathing gas supply in the inhalation direction which is mounted in the opening of the connector and which is held open by an actuator or detector provided at the mask tubular fitting when the mask is connected.

A protective suit has a supply of breathing air and includes a multiplicity of hollow chambers covering the body of the wearer which can be filled with breathing gas. The interiors of these chambers communicate with one another. The protective suit also includes hollow bodies which rest against the head, neck and upper torso region of a protective helmet portion. The interiors of these bodies communicate with those of the hollow chambers and with the interior of the protective helmet portion. The protective suit is configured for use for divers such that it is suitable not only for providing a sufficient volume for the supply of breathing gas and for thermal insulation but also, when it is filled, of first quickly pushing the diver up to the surface of the water and of providing a safe position of repose of the diver after ascent in which he can breathe freely, once he has reached the surface of the water. For this purpose, a source of breathing gas is connected to the hollow bodies and the connection between the hollow bodies and the hollow chambers is provided by a pretensioned transition element. In addition, the hollow chambers have an outlet which communicates with the interior of the protective helmet via a further pretensioned transition element. The opening pressure of the first-mentioned transition element is less than the opening pressure of the second-mentioned transition element.

A cycle respirator for pressure operation makes sure that in the respiratory cycle a positive pressure relative to the ambient atmosphere always prevails. During the exhaling phase this positive pressure is undesirable because he (the user) is additionally burdened unnecessarily during exhalation. The invention includes a sensor connected with a measuring circuit which can distinguish between inhalation phase and exhalation phase and activates through a measuring circuit an auxiliary device by which the positive pressure is reduced during the exhalation phase. Across an electric resistance path a voltage difference drops which varies in accordance with the stroke movements of the breathing bag. This varying voltage difference is used as a measurement signal for the switching of the auxiliary device, whereby the positive pressure in the respiratory cycle is created in the respiratory cycle only during the inhaling phase, but is reduced during the exhaling phase.

A control device for use with a respirator which has a breathing gas supply and a separate pressure gas supply comprises a gas control device housing with a connection for the patient and a bottle pressure line and a medium pressure line connected to the device and controlled by valve elements. A lung machine for respirators must guarantee, even upon failure of the important pressure reducer in the respiratory gas feed line, that the apparatus user is supplied with respiratory gas. This is done here in a simple manner by bypassing a swivel valve controlled by means of a breathing diaphragm. A piston valve, connected via a control line with the medium pressure P.sub.MD and, directly with the high pressure P.sub.HD, opens upon failure of the medium pressure and through the high pressure always present, directly a high pressure valve contained in the piston valve. The respiratory gas can then flow into the lung machine in adequate quantity and is expanded therein in any event, in order then to get to the apparatus user by the normal route.

Respirator control device

A sealing valve either blocks or releases the gas held under pressure in a gas cylinder, for example. When the sealing valve is opened, the flow path is opened and a pressure impact travels to the equipment connected downstream of the valve and can cause damage thereto. The attenuator valve of the invention is disposed in the pressure-gas conduit between the pressure-gas source and the sealing valve and prevents this kind of an impact from occurring. Since the attenuator valve of the invention is controlled exclusively by pressure, it can be mounted at any location in the pressure-gas conduit. The attenuator valve of the invention includes a housing and a valve body mounted in the housing which shuts off the pressure-gas conduit with the aid of a closure cone which is held in sealing contact to a conical valve recess by means of a spring. The pressurized gas in the cylinder is present above the valve body via an alternate path. When the pressure of the gas beneath the valve body drops, this pressurized gas above the valve body causes the same to be lifted from its conical valve recess against the force of the spring thereby causing a slowed flow of gas which is free of impact to pass through the sealing valve to the equipment.

In the regeneration cartridges used in respirators for carbon dioxide adsorption, heat and water are released. Especially the heat becomes a burden for the user. It must, therefore, be removed. To this end, a regenerant of the cartridge is followed by a cooling device which contains a coolant, e.g. water ice. The cooling device comprises a threaded member which is screwed into a screwthread type recess of the cartridge container. The breathing air then sweeps the cooling device in thermal contact in a spiral channel formed between the wall of the container and the insert and terminating in an outlet, as it cools the breathing air. The condensation collects at the lower point of the channel, where there is a spring-loaded drain valve, and when the valve has opened, it drains to the outside under the force of the positive respiratory pressure and a collecting condensate water column.

A protective helmet has its head harness constructed as a cooling gear. The harness forms a lining of the inside of a helmet shell and comprises two elastic sheets connected to each other by seams. The sheets are cut to double segments which are connected to each other at the top by an annular channel. The double segments are divided by longitudinal and transverse webs to form communicating cells. The space between the sheets is filled with a coolant which is introduced through annular channel in a liquid state. The double segments are connected to each other by a cross band through which the head harness is buttoned in, onto retaining buttons inside the helmet. To cool down, the harness can easily be unbuttoned and later put in place again in the same simple manner.

An emergency respirator for rapid use by a person comprises a container having a cartridge for material which acts to bind carbon dioxide and to liberate oxygen to gases which pass therethrough. A breathing connection is connected to one end of the container preferably comprises a bellows-like hose which terminates at its outer end in a mouthpiece and defines a breathing passage interconnected into the cartridge. A jacket defines a heat storage connection to the opposite end of the container which is openable to atmosphere and expiration gases pass through the cartridge and are heated by the binding of the carbon dioxide and this heat is stored in the heat storage. Inspiration gases are then directed through the opening of the heat storage through the heat storage where they are heated before passing through the cartridge to liberate oxygen so that the incoming inspiration gases are enriched with oxygen and heated before they are delivered to the person.
